Sheep Creek Lake, a Division cutthroat brood stock water, and Feeder Canal, above the lake, will be closed again this year. A good fishing opening is expected in this region, of the state, especially on major impoundments such as Starvation Reservoir, Moon Lake, Big SandwasV Reservoir and Steinaker Reservoir. A big crowd is expected at Flaming Gorge for the opening weekend and the Green River may see its biggest crowd ever. Starvation Reservoir - This is the third year of Ashing on the reservoir, and a big crowd is expected. Improved roads, a good boat ramp and improved camping areas await the anglers. Overflow campgrounds will be heavily used, and sportsmen are urged to keep those areas clean. Recent surveys show a good number of Ash between 10 and 14 inches long, with many going up to 18 inches. There are some big brown trout and cutthroat in Starvation, and some lucky anglers are certain to catch them. Moon Lake - This lake will receive a good stock of rainbow , trout for the opening. Also, there is a good chance of brown, cutthroat and brook trout taking a lure. Moon Lake is a good bet for the opening, especially if you enjoy the high country scenery. Lake Fork River - This river is controlled by Moon Lake; so it should be clear, although a little high. It has been stocked with catchable rainbow trout, and there is a good chance for a brown or ' cutthroat to be caught. North Fork Duchesne River - This stream will be high for the opening, but it is usually pretty clear. Fishing should be good. There are some excellent camping areas along the river, so get there early and select your spot. Thursday, May 31, 1973 Angling will be best on Utah's reservoirs and lakes at lower elevations on the June 2 opener, according to Bill Tate, assistant chief of Fisheries for the Division of Wildlife Resources. Tate said only those streams readily accessible will be stocked for the weekend. Higher than normal runoff this spring should make this a good fishing year. "More water means fish won't be as crowded and will grow faster," he explained. "Waters in the high country will probably be accessible about the same time as normal even though there was more snow than usual, because of the heavy runoff" Tate added. Several Utah waters closed last year following chemical treatment will open again this year, according to the Division of Wildlife Resources. Among these waters is Otter Creek Reservoir where heavy pressure is expected. Fish in the reservoir are mainly in the 10 to 12 inch range. There are no improved camping sites in the area. Roundwillow Bottom Lake in Garfield County has been stocked with cutthroat, but the fish will be quite small Crystal, Washington and Tail lakes in Summit County have been restocked with cutthroat. Fishcreek Reservoir in Wayne County will produce small cutthroat. Fisheries biologists noted anglers will probably have to walk the last 3 or 4 miles to reach this high mountain water. Daggett Lake in Daggett County will open August 1. Fisheries personnel will be taking golden trout eggs on this water ' in the earlier summer months. Waters that will be closed this year due to chemical treatment include Minersville Reservoir in Beaver County, Baker and West Locomotive ponds in Box Elder County and Hoop Lake in Summit County. Temple Fork river from its source downstream to the culvert, located about 2 miles upstream from Highway 89, will be closed as posted.
