The Republican patry is united, knows what it stands for and is in no need of trying to placate factions. The Democratic party, on the other hand, seems to be made up of factions, each one demanding that its interests be served and thus producing innumerable causes of conflict. Quite naturally there is not a crush of Democratic candidates. Up to date McAdoo is the principal candi-dat- e and he seems to be quite a favorite with his press agents. How popular he is with the movie masters we do not know. If Douglas Fairbanks and Frank Hart or Mary Pick- ford have declared for him it has not yet been flashed on the screen. He wisely slid out of the railway admin- istration just as it began to balk and landed safely on the grass plot, and it may be that he can retain the favor of the railroad brotherhoods, but there is no particular indication that they regard him as their leader.
