ASSESSMENTS 818 Kearns Building, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH. ON HIS OWN EXPLAINED There appears to be some misapprehension on tlie part of many mineral claimants as to the previsions of the net. of August 24, 1021, Congressman Smith of Idaho said at Washington, with reference to D. C., lost Monday, assessment work on unpatented mineral claims. This act changed the period for doing annual assesment work on unpatenteri claims from the calendar year to the fiscal year. This change was made in tlie belief that it wouU he more convenient for mineral claimants to perform assesment work during the summer, and by having the period close on June 3oth it would be possible to jerfnrm two years work with the same outfit that is, the assessment work for 1922 could be performed the latter part of June and for 1923 in the early part of July of the same year. There is no probability, in APPEALS FOR MONEY Urged That All School Taxes Be Sent to State. Auditor. . Apjieal is being made by Mark Tuttle, state auditor, to the various coun ty treasurers of Utah to send in the last available cent of state and state school taxes before March 31st in order that the schools of the state may get the greatest amount possible from the second and final allotment of state aid. When the state district school tax levy was fixed at a rate that woul dollars jier capita yield twenty-fiv- e for each jierson of school age there has been turned in to the Utah treasury so far only enough to yield twenty-one dollars per capita. Attention has been called hy the state school offieers that such a result might serious ly embarass some districts, which hai been counting on the full twenty-fiv- e dollars. It is estimated that something like $900,000 of state and state school taxes for 1921 are as yet not in the state treasury. It is recognized that part of of this is in uncollected taxes, hut it is also recognized that about $450,000 o: the amount is probably now lying in the county treasuries. If this reaches the state treasury in the next week or ten days the amount rediscounted to the school districts of Utah will go up to altout $23.25. The payment of early in April will he the last from the state school fund the current school year, There will he another payment afte close of the school from the state big school fund. II. S.
