The card was presented for the bene-:!- it of Junior baseball, an activity which is directed by the Legion. Twelve bouts comprised the program, and, with one exception, they were crammed with action throughout Ranging in size from 62 to 195 pounds and exemplifying every kind of fighting style, the performers, all of them from Carbon county, put on one of the best cards ever staged in the county. . At least half of the fighters have been identified with the junior baseball teams of the city, and they showed appreciation of this recreational movement by giving everything they had from the opening bell until the end of the fight Dick Laner, 120, of Sweet Mine hung up his fourth victory in as many starts this season when he knocked out Billy Jones, 120, of Consumers in the first round of their 23-1- fjistered bout Disregarding Laners reputation as a hard scheduled four-rou- nd puncher, Jones carried the. fight to his adversary, but the first round was hardly hidf over when he ran into one of Laners terrific smashes. his protest by refusing tq get up. Two amateurs from Carbon high school, Stanley Borrell, 145, and Luke three-rou- nd Pappas, 140, put on a rousing battle, with Borrell gaining a wide decision. The victor rained punches on Pappas continuously, but the latter youngster absorbed all the punishment Borrell could hand out and cheerfully came back .for more. Both boys were in excellent physical condition, but Pappas was no match for his older and more developed opponent This' fight was regarded by many as the best scrap of the evening, and Pappas was given a big hand for his exhibition of gameness. Jonny Besso, 150, and George Bikakis, 150, fought to a draw in four rounds. Besso forced the fighting most of the time, but Bikakis got in enough solid pokes to earn a draw. IRck Brown, 145, knocked Johnny RlWMi down six times in the first three rounds,' but he couldn't keep him on the floor. Bikakis was able to keep on his feet in the fourth round, but Brown continued to pile up points and easily won the decision. Bikakis weighed 140 pounds. Henry Mangum, 130, and Ross 130, fought to a draw in three rounds, and Jonny Tangaro, 115, Jackie Aramaki, 120. Arama-hit the floor three times in the final round. Max Allred, 110,. and Jimmy Col-nno, stood toe to toe and jarred each other with wicked lefts and rights, the bout being called a draw.
