Attorney Elijah Farr waa raught betwern the carriage and the first floor of the building, and when he was removed a lew minutes after the accident life was extinct A coroner's inquest held yesterday afternoon disclosed the fact that hia neck was broken, and it is thought that death was instantaneous. At the time of the accident Mr. Farr waa accompanied by Or. McPherson. They had gone into the basement to take from the elevator a bunch of keys which Mr. Farr had left there last Saturday evening as ho waa coming down from hia office on the second floor of the building. The carriage waa stationed within a few feet of the basement floor, and with the assistance of Dr. McPherson, Mr. Farr entered the cage and secured his key. In attempting to descend he became overbalanced, and In trying to steady himself grasped the cable which controls the movement of tho machinery and in doing so caused the cage to rise. A he fell hie neck wee caught between the floor of the elevator and the beams under the floor of the building, and he remained in that position for several tnpndai minutes, as Dr. McPherson waa unable to operate the machine and had to summon assistance. George H. Beach, tbe Janitor of the building, who was the first to come to his aid, lowered the elevator and lifeless body was shortly afterward removed to the office of Dr. Rich, on the second floor of the building, where a coroner's Inquest was held. The Jury was com posed of J. Meteer, J. C. Williams and L. II. Taylor. ami of Elijah Farr, the I.orin and Nlckoliue Karr, was born at Ogden on December 23. 1867. He was graduated from the Ogden school and when 23 yean of age completed the Ihw course at Ann Arbor university Since that time he baa practiced law in this city. He is survived by his father and mother, two brothers, L renso and John Farr, and three sisters, Mrs. W. 8. Harris, Mrs. James Wothcr-spoo- n and Mrs. George Driver.
