Among these newly organized com- panies none have been instrumental in opening up a greater area of land to cultivation and production than has the American Falls Canal and Power company, which 1s rapidly nearing the completion of Its Immense system of drainage and Irrigation canal sys- a tem. During the past season they have had about 150 learns constantly at work on their ranal, the water for which to being taken from Snake river opposite Blackball, Idaho, .uifis a distance of 45 miles down the river nearly to American Falls, and trill open up and reclaim about 60.000 acres of the best farming land under cultivation in Idaho. Added to this Irrigation canal proper, there will be about loo miles of laterals. The company will resume work In the spring and push the project to an early completion. This amount of reclaimed land, at the rate of 160 acres to the family, will open up to settlers enough land to Bceom modal n 320 families. The reclamation of this immense tract of land and Ita cultivation means a great demand for supplies, and Ogden, being the nearest wholesale city to that district. will naturally derive the most signal lieneflt from Its reclamation and settlement. The carrying capacities of the canal make it an asstt.ed success, tho head being So feet wide on the boftom, and 6 feet deep and carrying 1,300 second foot of water.
