Kiesel, has offered to give the city a site tor a Hlgn school worth 5X5,000, provided the municipality will vote for bonds to the amount of 575.009 for th erection of a suitable building on th ground. A proposal for bonds Is submitted for popular approval, and every reason for a favorsbls vote warrants ths supposition that the bonds will be authorised. Certainly every consideration, whether of public policy, of business judgment or at purely Mn- - a large amount. All the heavy taxpayers of the city have signified thrir approval of the bonds publicly; tn labor organisations are anxious to ths bonds Issued; tbs Weber club an t the chamber of commerce ara oa record la favor of th building, as are the Mormon church authorities. Including stake presidents, even the character of the opposition Is of ths kind to win support for the project. The sMtlng capacity of th present building Is 565, while the attendance this year is was (57, and th annual IncresM la he number of pupils is X5X Th IncreaM of itself Is enough to warrant th construction of tha new building and speaks volumes for the growth and prosperity of Ogden. Further, If the city of Ogden 1 t get the advantage of Mr. Kiesel s generous offer, the bonds must b approved at this time. Very properly the donor has made this on of tha conditions of his offer beeaure he recognises the imperative neceMlty for Immediate action, and ha could not be expected t i make foe city a present of such value with the option of building whenewr the mood moved the authorities to do the work. If Ogden has one Institution of whk h It has a right to be proud It Is the puh-li- e High school. It is splendidly managed. It has the modern school spirit. It haa given Salt Lake a painful and effective demonstration of Its provvexn In athletics, which Is the test of team work In the school organisation, and It ranks with the best schools in America. It Is entitled to a good building, constructed not only for present needs, but tor the years to come, and It has a splendid opportunity now to get tha-- . minimum coat ' with a building at maximum of benefit The Herald, which la interested in Ogdens progress and la Indebted to th people of Ogden In many ways, hopes they will approve the bonds unanimously. NEXT WEDNESDAY READY TO START present the cloakrooms, th halls and even the unsanitary basement rooms are all crowded with pupils, and there Is not the slightest protection against fit. Ths situation Is not ' only untenable but it Is dangerous. Mr. Davis thinks the bonds can be crashed at 4 per cent. That will only add 11,909 to the taxation of Ogden annually, which perhaps would amount to 15 cents per capita. And then, the school is an absolute necessity. When a rich city neglects to supply school facilities to Its young men and young women, to Its boys and girls, that failure is a sign of degeneration, and the difference in the future of Ogden, whether people when they visit that city sea a tumble down, overcrowded, unsafe and unsanitary strwtnre used for school purposes, or a modern new structure with all the facilities, is very marked. The difference is so great that it will be enough to decide many a person tor or against settling la Ogden. Ogden Is a prosperous, hopeful place. This added burden would be nothing, while Its advantages are Just as apparent as Is the necessity for .having It. We shall be greatly disappointed If the taxpayers of Ogden do not almost unanimously vote for the issuance of there bonds - OGDEN'S HIGH SCHOOL BONDB.
