Show TRUTH. NATIONAL POLITICS. Mr. Hearts newspapers continue to take a rosy view of the political situation, and, according to statements made therein, the proprietor of the journals which are published under his direction is already nominated. In addition to Arizona and New Mexico, Iowa and Arkansas, California and Illinois and Washington, Idaho, claimed by Hearst, he announces that he will have Wisconsin, Nebraska, the two Dakotas, a big bunch from Missouri and a whole lot from the southern states. Mr. Hearst feels very confident, and so does his manager, Mr. Ihmsen, who is taking charge of all the work, and who has several trusted lieutenants in the field hustling for all they are worth. It is said that Mr. Hearst may not be nominated. But if he is not he will have enough delegates in the convention to annoy the leaders a little. Already Mr. Hiil of New York, who is the manager of Parker, has said that Hearst is a pest. That means a great deal, coming from Hill. Parkers boom seems to have been in hard lines. A great many people seem to believe that Parkers chances would have been better had not the state convention at Albany declared for him, and had it not promulgated the platform perpetrated by Hill. But it appears that Hill miscalculated. He thought the. action of New York would cause the other states to stampede to Parker and the failure so to do has disappointed a great many. Still, it looks a great deal like Parker, in spite of all that can be said. Now we have the Young Mens Varsity, an exceptionally smart style for the younger fellows. . 1 1t's a style muoh sought, for in college towns whero the young men gather, where they want to dress well, and know that the way to do it is to find the Hart, Schaffaer A Marx goods. 1 Well show you the latest clothes when you call. 1 Don't forget our Furnishings and Hats, they have more style and better quality for the same price others ask. 1 J about there being a dark horse in the field, and there are those who claim that perhaps Missouri will put forward this young man Folk, but Folk is young and untried, and the only thing he has to recommend him is his prosecution of St. Louis criminals. Former Governor Stone of Missouri might be a good man in the event of a deadlock, but we do not think he will get in the race. The convention may have a fight, and a hard one, but the man who will be nominated is already in the field. This city has suffered by reason of high rates so long that the relief would be most welcome. On the face of it the proposition seems to be very fair and reasonable. We anxiously await the action of that eminent reformer, Councilman Martin, who was going to do things to the electric light company, but who has not, and we hope his frequent visits to the office of the old company are with an eye single to improving the service. We hope so; we do, indeed. 3 0X OOOOOOOOOOOOOtfOOOOOOOOOOOOO Logan, May 12. Politics are beginning to bubble. In their actions they strongly resemble a flock of sheep, all eager to follow the bell wether In the old days a local newspaper had a great deal to say of Baker, Benson and Burris, the three Bs, but it now maintains a strict silence about the three Bs of the present body. One of these is endeavoring, and with very good success, to run the entire shooting match. By the way. |
