Show Vol. 3; No. Sta.te a.nd Local Politics. The Tribunes alleged political writer, who sits in his office and fakes his stuff, continues to endeavor to nominate Judge King for governor on the Democratic ticket, notwithstanding the fact that candidates nominated by the Tribune have hitherto met with disaster at the' hands of conventions. Had there been any meeting, of leading Democrats, as he alleges, and had so and desired King Judge met with favor at its hands, the mention of the fact and the constant bocsting of his candidacy by the Tribune would be sufficient to kill him off. Neither the Tribune or the Herald is going to nominate any one on either ticket this fali and the sooner the syndicated management discovers the proper condition of affairs the better for them, because they may then be able to score a success or do so by indulging in some knocking. Persistent jarring on the part of both might result in some fellow landing a place. Speaking of the King candidacy, the Tribunes asinine political writer shows some sense at times. He read last weeks issue of Truth and now gravely announces that a friend of Judge King says he is going to be a candidate for the senate. . jl A great deal is being said concerning the attitude of the Utah Democracy as to presidential candidates. One would imagine, from reading the Tribune, or its evening ally, or even its morning partner, which every two weeks has something on the political line, whether it wants it or not, that there is much strife and contention here in this state over the question of Parker or Hearst. As a matter of cold, straight fact but very little discussion has taken place. Utah has six votes only and is away down on the roll call. Wyoming, West Virginia, Virginia and Vermont are the only states called after Utah. The candidate will be selected before Utah is called by the secretary of the convention. This state being situated in such a position, there need be no wild scramble for places, or bitter A fights over individual preferences. number of the members of the party think Utah should send an uninstructed delegation in order that when the proper time comes they may climb on the band wagon and be happy. . . Jt Jt Aquila Nebeker will return from Mexico very soon, doubtless within the next two or three days. When he gets here he will settle this knocking business by declaring his candidacy for the governorship. Jt Jt The friends of Attorney Baker are positive in the statement that he will go before the convention with solid delegations from Tooele and Summit counties. It is not claimed that Mr. Baker can win with this backing, but it is intimated that neither Smith nor can command enough Loofbourow votes to win after they have divided the Salt Lake delegation between them. Bakers friends look for support from either one of the two opposing candidates when it is found that neither one can win. Jt Jt Joe Hyde, the well known salesman, has a lot of friends who are working in his interest as a candidate for the lower house of the legislature on the Democratic ticket. Joe is a very popular young man and would make a strong race for the place. & Jt It is stated that County Clerk John- nie James is making a quiet canvass to secure his renomination for the office he has held for two terms. But Johnnie will have some hard sledding ere he secures the endorsement of his party for the third time. Joe Lipp-man- s mouse is understood to be working for Johnnie with all the zeal he can manifest, biit the mouses long suit is securing information and not so Johnnies influencing voters, chances are not materially improved by having the support of the mouse.
