Show TRU T H POLITICAL MELANGE. it is not by any means all love and Republican party. A. lrinony in the H. Nash and his friends are very sore tit the reappointment of Postmaster Thomas. They say that Congressman Sutherland allowed himself, to be worked by what they call the old Tribune crowd, and that in overlooking the f lnims of Mr. Nash he hit more than of the active Republican three-fourta slap in the face. Nash had workers the endorsement of the machine, a majority of the members of the Legislahs ture, the city and county chairmen, in fact, nearly everybody of influence in the party. Yet Congressman Sutherland passed them up like a white chip and they feel hurt. They say Thomas had had more than the share of political preference than For comes to the ordinary mortal. twenty years he has been holding office and the mathematicians among the has growlers have figured out that he salreceived something like $100,000 in ary in one way or. another. It was given out when he went east that he was going to a family reunion in Maine. The reunion was at Washington with A. L. Thomas and O. J. Salisbury, by courtesy styled Republican national committeeman, while Lannan is or was the real committeeman. It must have been a happy family gathering. Having succeeded in planting A. L. "Will the Tennysonian brook like Lannan, Thomas and Pratt, never end? If the appointing power in Washington knew how tired It made people here surely mercy would be shown. The naming of the United States Marshal, however, rests with Senator Kearns, and he will not be hoodwinked as Congressman Sutherland was. I tell you the power of the Lannan crowd went Avhen the Tribune was sold. Pratt stands no show of getting the office, and his friends might as well come home and not make fools of themselves. People decidedly object to riding in a refrigerator, especially after leaving warm homes, offices or stores. The consequences of having to sit for ten, fifteen or twenty minutes in a car without artificial heat are sometimes very serious, and it is always unpleasant and risky. The street car company, however, cares very little about that as long as it can save a few dollars in fuel, and the cost of attendance to the stove. Walker Bros. Dry Goods Co. J. OBERNDORFBR.
