The tenure of office is, for the first term, three years, and for succeeding terms four years, and the Jurisdiction of the court in which these Judges will preside is large and comprehensive. It is believed they will be called upon to determine a major proportion of the legal controversies arising within the city. This tribunal will be a court of record, with original jurisdiction in actions upon contract ana in tort, where the amount claimed is less than $500, and Jurisdiction in certain other cases, according to the statute, concurrent with the District courts. College glee club men who can crack minstrel and do vaudeville specialties are in demand at the University of Chicago. With the beginning of the new school year the glee club will take the role of actors as well as singers. The membership will be increased to thirty or forty men and drilled by Prof Lester B. Jones to give an original sort of glee club concert. The plan is one fostered by Prof. Jones, who thinks the glee club concert must be changed in tone to retain its popularity. He hopes to have entertainments so popular that the faculty will allow the glee club to take the trip that lately ha been denied it. The college glee club concerts are getting too tame for the average man, said Prof. Jones. People go to see jokes them that they may get a sight of college life. Well, they dont get it. The boys stand in a row in evening dress and sing songs that give little idea of college glee. What the audience would like is an idea of how boys act at college. Now, a performance can be devised by the glee club that will show this. It will require some acting and the boys are equal to that. A concert in Chicago in the nature of a musical play of college life, where the scenes can be set at the university, would be original and is what we expect to present. The faculty is taking slight interest in the glee club at present, but with a really good and new performance I think the glee club would be allowed to take its production on the road for a WALKER T.
