RE STEPHEN HOLBROOK Dear Editor; Howard Kenhner three-quarte- J As debt rises and the value of the dollar declines, in order to produce something that looks like prosperity, the government must increase the debt at a faster and faster rate. The Ford deficit for a little more than two years will be at least double the Nixon deficit for five years. Thats an increase of 4 to I . The Nixon deficit was double the Johnson deficit. The Johnson deficit was almost double the Kennedy deficit, and the Kennedy deficit for less than 3 years was greater than the Eisenhower deficit for eight years. This makes clear that as inflation progresses, more and more debt must be incurred to give the economy a boost, but with each increase in the national debt, the burden of interest becomes greater. Very soon now we shall be borrowing money (printing it, that is) to pay interest on previous borrowing. Already, interest on the national debt is over $30 billion per year. That's more than the en-ti- rs re Utah's Largest and Fastest-Growin- 57 Oakland Avenue Federal Government before World War II. mm The of the cost g The article about Stephen Holbrook in the March 12th DESERET NEWS by David Briscoe leaves out many of the facts concerning 'Mr. background. of Many Independent than months 2 12 m. diagram , of Utah 84115 50 for $9.00 Subscriptions: USA $10.00 per year Foreign $15.00 per year I The Name 100 for $17.50 UTAH INDEPENDENT I I Party. the Daily World of paragraph article reads: The economic and political power of. the Mormon hierarchy coincides with the interest of monopoly capital and must be fought as such. Jean Flanaghan. says. She wants double that amount. How can we restore our economy by vast increase of debt while at the same time reducing taxes? The policy being proposed in high places will lead to certain and swift bankruptcy and the slave state. Many voices are demanding that government do something. What can government do? It can increase the debt, producing something that looks like prosperity but which results in a further decrease of the value of the dollar. When the dollar approaches zero (and it's already of the way), government will he helpless. At that point, increasing the quantity of money will mean nothing. Two zeros are no more than one zero. Isaacs claims to have killed 15 people and was convicted of six murders. He is eligible for parole in 32 years. And what does he think of capital punishment? This is what he told the reporter: I believe in the death penalty to prevent people like me from killing. Asked to explain, he said: The death penalty always used to deter me because I knew I could die for murder. I'd walk into a place to stick it up and Id think twice about blowing that man away. But when you know you wont fry and the worst you can get is life, and maybe parole later why not get rid of the evidence? Thats what I did. - Theres too much the only way to is it to stop bring back the death penalty. As long as killing...and anybody else on the street for a good number of years.
