UTAH. Tooele County. CAMP FLOYD DISTRICT. Mercur, June 10. The appearance at Capt. DeLamar's Golden Gate mine of a large corps of experts indicates that the second stage in the negotiations for the purchase of this and other properties by a foreign syndicate has been reached. Some weeks ago the Mining Review published a statement from New York, setting forth that Capt. DeLamar had gone to Eng- land for the purpose of meeting by appointment the representatives of a syndicate that had been formed for the purpose of purchasing a large portion of the Camp Floyd district, and the reasonable inference is that the experts now on the ground wTere sent by the syndicate referred to. It is said to be practically the same association of capital that has acquired control of the Anaconda mine, and Mr. Hamilton Smith is expected to arrive tomorrow for the purpose of making an examination independent of that nowT being conducted. The negotiations are known to cover the Golden Gate and East Golden Gate groups and it is understood that the owners of the Jones Bonanza and other adjacent groups have been asked to name their figures. Of course the valuation fixed upon the Golden Gate by Capt. DeLamar is not known, but sufficient is known concerning the size and value of the ore bodies to justify the belief that that several million dollars are involved. The owners of a controlling interest in the East Golden Gate are said to have fixed a valuation of between 50 and 60 cents per share on their stock, the total capitalization being 600,000 shares. Whatever the ultimate result of the negotiations, it will be wreeks before conclusions are reached. There are 10,000 feet of workings, all in ore, and as samples are being taken every fifteen feet, this alone will consume much time. The tests are made under the direction of a metallurgical expert sent from England for this purpose. The successful termination of these negotia-tion- s would exert a beneficial influence on the Camp Floyd district by attracting wide attention to its mines. Mercur Mercury: A large number of ore teams were put on this week by Contractor Redman, for the purpose of hauling ore from the Northern Light mine to the depot, from whence it is shipped to the smelter. The ore is said to run well in silver, gold and iron. The ore is of two characters. What is known as the gold ore, and of wrhlch there will be constant shipments in the future, averages $19.80 gold, fifteen ounces silver and 25 per cent iron, while the silver ore, of which a car was shipped this week, averaged 200 ounces per ton. The main difficulty at present is to hoist the ore out of the mine, it being necessary to use a windlass for a large part of the distance, and to obviate this difficulty Supt. Hines will soon start a tunnel to tap the vein from below and thus create an outlet by which the ores may be Jiandled in the cheapest manner. The Gold Dust property leads the procession at present among the prospects in this part of the district, and any person who desires to inspect a grand body of pay ore should pay the workings a visit. A Mercury reporter put on his yellow boots Monday and examined the strike, in company with Manager Jessen, and found that the published reports were in nowise exaggerated. |
