Its subscription list includes the names of a great majority of those interested in mining in this region, thus demonstrating the existence of a field for just such a journal. It is justified in calling attention to the high character of its local advertising patronage, which includes the leading firms in the various lines represented. The character of its local support is a fair Index of a journals standing at home, and in this respect the Mining Review is certainly entitled to hold its head as high as any of its contemporaries. The latest information concerning the Utah & California road indicates that it will follow the old Union Pacific grade from Milford to Pioche, thence to DeLamar, cross the A. & P. near Ludlow, and the Southern Pacific at Banning, and thence follow7 the Clover ...Valley route to Los Angeles. The old grade in Lincoln county, Nev., has been sold for delinquent taxes and purchased by the county, and the county commissioners have donated it to the new company. High taxation in Lincoln county is a discouragement to railroad building, but this is more than offset by the heavy ore traffic promised. The route may possibly swing off from the old grade to take in the State Line district, and branches will probably be constructed to the coal and iron fields of Iron county and into the Dixie country. The mineral resources of the country to be traversed by the new road are immense and its construction will stimulate the development of many properties now lying idle. All of this output will seek an outlet by way of Salt Lake and thus increase the importance of this city as a mining center.
