Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 20, and. 22. 21 9 J Report ofMeeting of the State Education Committee, U. p. W. C. A meeting of the State Education Committee of the U. F. W. C. was held at the home of the chairman, Mrs; E. J. McVicker, on March 12, 1898. The especial object of the meeting was to consider the best plans for studying the condition of the schools throughout the State through the medium of the women's clubs, the clubs in each county being expected to look after the schools in their respective county. A list of questions prepared by Dr. J. F. Millspaugh regarding the condition of school buildings and grounds, sanitation, etc., were carefully con: sidered and adopted with but slight addition. Also a list of questions prepared by Prof. McKnight on the methods of teaching, were examined and, upon .motion of Mrs. Graham were adopted as a .whole with the addition of the two following questions under the class of general questions: What means is employed to develop lore of country? How many children use tobacco and cigarettes? ; As the best literature on educational subjects for club study the committee recommends History of Pedagogy," Prince's by Gabriel Compayre, School Methods and Courses,5' Management" by Dr. White, ManChild Study" and ual Training," Wolf's pamphlet on School Buildings and Sanitation." The committee accepted with thanks the very kind offer of the editor of the Review" to publish these questions and reports. There being no further business the . - . meeting adjourned until further call from the chairman. Lulu Lee Stiehl, Sec. Ed. Com. U. F. W. C. A resolution has been introduced in the Senate authorizing the library committee to cause such historical manuscripts as are in the possession of either of the departments of the government, to be transferred 10 the Library of Congress under suitable regulations for their care and preservation." There is considerable opposition by students of history in Washington to this transfer being made now, as it .will seriously interfere with their researches, especially for the present. However, when the historical department of the library is in good working order with the material now in their custody classified and indexed, :the students will likely welcome a concentration of the government manuscripts.
