The signing of a floor-pric- e purchase contract for copper and molybdenum with, the San Maunel Copper Corporation, of New York, was announced today by Jess Larson, administrator of the Defense Materials L. y state-men- u. Larson said, for development of the companys vast copper and molybdenum holdings In Pinal County, Arizona. The property contains one of the largest copper deposits ever discovered in the United States. A loan of $94,000,000 to assist in development of the property was approved recently by the Reconstructed Finance Corporation. DMPA, Mr. Larson said, has guaranteed the company a market for 365,000 short tons of refined copper and tons of molybdenum 16,060 short contained in concentrates. The guaranteed price for. the copper is 24 cents per pound, cent under the present ceiling, and 60 cents per 'pound for the molybdenum concentrates. ly ; in the other floor-pric- e purchase contracts negotiated by DMPA for strategic materials, the government has an option 'to purchase the companys total output upon advance notiAs STATEMENT OF THE OWNERSHIP, Management, and Circulation required by the Act of Congress of Aug. 24, 1912, as amended by the Acts of March 3, 1933, and July 2, 1916 (Title 39, United States Code, Section 233). It is expected, however, that most of the companys output will be sold directly to industry, Mr. Larson said. Development of the big mine will involve, in addition to the equipping of the mine itself, installation of a mill and smelter, construction of a townsite, power plant, railroad connections and the installation of a number of auxiliary facilities. The contract provides that the mine be in full operation in 4 years. The signing of the agreement with the San Manuel Corporation emphasizes ,two things about our metals and minerals situation, Mr. Larson said. First, it provides tangible proof that the United States is a long way from exhausting its underground reserves of needed materials. Second, it brings us face to face with the cold fact that large mining operations do not spring into being over night I hope that the time limit for bringing the San Manuel property Into production can be beaten, but there is no escaping the fact that we have to think in terms of years not months or weeks on this (kind of an operation. 7, 1956.) As soon as the mine is in full ASSESSMENT NOTICE operation, Mr. Larson said, production will lie at the rate of UTILE MAT MINING COMPANY, 70,000 short tons of electrolytic-all- Principal Place of Business, 414 Atlas refined coper and 3080 tons Bonding, Salt Lak City 1, Utah.
