Messrs, Marks atid Nelson were appointed a committee to kok waiter the grading of the Tooele High School grounds 'ihey were also appointed a committee to adjust the fire insurance rates on the buildings here. Supt. Hicks reported on conditions at Gold Hill, stating that lie found 27 children of school He stated that there is age. a building there which could be used for school purposes until definite nirangements could be decided upon. The matter was left vith Mcssre. Hicks and Wrathall for disposition. The matter of constructing a fence around the shool grounds at Ibapah was left- to the same two gentlemen. Messrs. Hicks and Bennion reported having visited the buildings' at Benmore, Vernon, and Clover, recommending the repairs necessary at each which they were ordered to look' after. The resignations of Prof. Allison, Miss Young and Miss of the Tooele High School and J. W; McAllister of the Grantsville High School, were accepted and' .Supt. Hicks was authorized to make recommendations of successors for their positions. Jos. Yates, Sr. was given the contract to haul the pupils to the Lake Point school for next year. Supt.. Hicks repotted that there are 16 children of school age at the settlement on the other side of Johnson Pass for whom school facilties will have to be provided. Lars J. Larson was appointed janitor of the school at Vernon. The other applications for janitors and teamsters were held for further consideration. OTaf Miler .appeared before the Ophir, Utah J. Monday, with bringing them several Samples of.high grade lead-silvore of which they have made a strike pn the Utah Boy group of claims at Six Mile near Indian Springs. .Messrs, Phillips and Western who have been proser . pecting in that vicinity for the past few months feel very much elated over the strike. They say that they have ran across a vein eighteen inches wide of almost pure galena, with a good grade of ore en either side which measures about four feet wide. They intend to .open up the find a little more before starting to market the ore. Although the property is located thirty miles from the raijroad they feel that the values contained .in the ore will bring them a handsome-re-tuafter paying for the transportation charges. Mr. Phillips owns an interest in the Tooele Chief group of claims on which there is a vein of high grade copper ore. m ; Railroad cars on fire at shields. A railroad car on the siding at Shields, the first station north of Tooele, was discovered shortly after five oclock by Delbert Adamsqn at Lincoln. He imme-diataenotified his father, Sheriff D. M. Adamson, who with several men hastened to- the scene aiid managed to separate ly - - Hill working on the Tooele-Gol- d - for the Hill Gold at property six weeks, has returned for the Fourth. J OFFICE- - POST j- the burning car from the others on the siding. Two cars which were loaded with ore, were burned down to the ore which prevented the lower part from being consumed. The body of one car was all afire when the men arrived, but the other one could have been prevented from burning had the railroad people been prompt to respond with an engine to put out the burning car. The one saved had a steel end which was the only thing that saved it from burning. . An engine from Garfield arrived about an hour after the fire was reported. The Tooele Valley with Supt. Kaul arrived, in Tooele Monday evening from Milwaukee where she had gone with the remains of Mr. Kaul for interment. 1 - Miss Charlote Strasburg who was Visiting in Salt Lake City, returned Tuesday. Biggs in detachment first the of charge of the 2nd Idaho Infantry, which has been stationed in Tooele for the past ten days, was presented with a beautiful watch. and' chain when leaving vtith his de--. tachment Tuesday afternoon. The presentation was made at the Salt Lake Route station by a number of Tooele citzens in presence of- the entire detachment. The spokesman'said that the gift was presented as a token of the appreciation in which the citizens held Capt. Biggs and that his conduct met with general approval. Lieut. Harris who arived here in the morning with thirty five men will have charge of the troops while stationed here. Capt. Biggs and detachment will return to Ogden where he will have ' charge of the company there on special duty. Capt. Biggs accepted the token in aneat speech expressing his appreication of the treatment by the people of Tooele and hoped that he would have the pleasure of meeting many of them again as his relations with them were moist cordial.
