Tliia afternoon the Senator visited Saltalr and tonight will leave for hia home. The Senator waa aeen by a Star representative and aa usual is euthuaiastU In hia views regarding the restoration of silver. Much of the hard times now prevail lug in the United Stater, Mr. Teller believes, la attributable to the discrediting of silver by the general government. The demouiti nation of a metal reoogniled by every civilization even before Solomon's time as a token of money naturally brings with It disaster and hardships. The Senator Is not at all alarmed in regard to the future of silver In the United States. lie takes no stock in t.ie recent utterances of Democrats that it will cut no important figure In the campaign of 1990. The money issue will be paramount In tliat campaign, and the West and. South willliave sufficient strength in the conventions ol both parties to secure important ooucea ahma in each national convention. If either party fails to recognize silver in Its platfbrm and nominations it simply courts defeat by so doing. Aa Secretary of the Interior under President Arthur, Senator Teller important reforms lu regard to the uuuagemeiit of Indiana, and he la pleased to Jearn, through bit mount investigations, that the condition of these wards of the government is generally satisfactory. The disturbance in Idaho and Wyoming at present is but a local trouble and of no deep seated sign! fleanee. The Stab man' Interrogated the Ben ator in regard to the nominee for President on the Republican ticket in 189(1, but that waa a matter on which the gentleman did not Cara to pass a pool five prediction. He is of the opinion, however, that t western man will head the ticket H MM ITUS IT Very Extensive Improvements in the Water System Being Hade. Extensive Improvements in the water supdjr system of Fort Douglas arein process of making at present, under the . supervision of Lieut. W. K. Wright, regimental quartermaster. Sixteenth Infantry. The water for the use of the post is secured from large springs about five mllaa up Red Butte canyon, and is stored in a small reservoir Just east ol the post buildings. The supply Is not alone Inadequate at present, but the reservoir, being in such dose proximity to the pest, the pressure is very light, and in case of lire but a feeble .stream can be thrown. To remove these difficulties the of a new reservoir about one mile and a quarter up the canyon was jegun, and the springs are being cleaned out and enlarged. The reaerviir is much, huger than the old one, and Is at a much greater elevation, so the pressure to be secured will be ample for all purposes. The work of construction Is being carried on entirely by the soldiers. When it was first begun, about a month ago, It waa plumed to have the companies of the regiment alternate In spending ten days thereon, but the undertaking proved so large and the work progressed so slowly that this week a second company was detailed, and henceforth two will be kept In the canyon continuously until the reservoir le completed. It Is estimated that the work, done as It Is by the soldiers, will cost in the neigh borhood of $5,000. Were it to be dime by civilian contract, the reservoir would cost, when completed, more than $15,' 000, it is stated by competent authority It is not oertain, however, tliat this . a Little Bit The troops worn paid Saturday by Major Elijah W. Captain Morrison has been relieved of Ills command, Company D, and is under the care of the Post surgeon. It is believed his mind is unbalanced, and be will be ordered before aboard of survey to determine his fitness fur farther active service. It Is believed he will be rutired, ns he lias been mentally deranged before. Lieut Tyler is now in command of Company D. Capt Palmer, Dad, os lie Is familiarly known among the men, will go on recruiting service next month. The detail will last two years.
