Show THE PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT (Continued from Page 1.) The stability of the ruble is not dependent on a gold standard. But on the quantity of goods on hand, and that the government determines the price. Daniel H. Magdiel, City. . INTERNATION GOVERNMENT Editor Progressive Independent: .. Our international government during the last 12 years, by building huge reserves taken from industries and people, have intentionally broken down the greatest industrial nation of the globe. They have crippled the transportation by land and sea. They have made the products of the mine and field worth less than the costs of production. They have relegated to idleness millions of workers of the nation. Tney have States; destroyed values in property for the people of the United World a War. They amounting to more than the entire cost of the the of the under greatflag have made it impossible for people to live est nation of all ages of men. Under the cloak of disarmament they lf billions of foreign inare trying to throw about eleven and one-hadebtedness on the backs of the American people. They have in their midst a moratorium grantor to aid the faulter-in- g banks of Europe, and an executioner and receiver to take care of the failing banks at home. They have taken the money and credit from the people and industries of the United States by hundreds of millions to revive the gold standard of Europe, so they can more effectually dominate the food, clothing supply and earnings of the people of the United States. When the gold standard banks are dying in Europe our Treasurer must be there, our Secretary of State must attend, the Governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is wanted, our ambassador in London gets a pathetic call, and among the four financial doctors, they give the dying standard an injection of gold, wrap it up in a bunch of moratoriums, give it additional credit against the people of the United States, and it again takes on a new lease of life. By J. E. Edmunds. GOOD WORDS Editor Progressive Independent: I have before me todays issue of your most pleasing paper. Its sentiments and sound philosophy so appropriate and opportune in the midst of our present environments that I think it should be read and assimilated by all people. It is so in harmony with my owif views that I could almost think it was a product of my own pen had I only the ability to put it in so dear, concise, beautiful and forceful language. I am so thoroughly imbued with its contents that I shall be glad to aid in any possible manner to the extent of my ability, to place it in every home in the state of Utah and even outside its borders where possible. Happy to state that you can count me as one of your enthusiastic subscribers commencing forthwith. Wishing you every success that can be possible for such a gem of thought and lofty purpose as it embraces, I remain. Very truly yours, A. W. MORRISON. . POWER OF THE FEW Have we everconsidered, I wonder, how horrible it is that some human beings should thus hold the power of bread or starvation over other human beings? Has any religious reformer, has any political revolutionary, has any Socialist philosopher, felt the fathomless wickedness of it, the infidelity and profanity of it, that the most of the human race may have bread only upon such conditions of labor and servitude as a comparatively few masters may impose? Has the reformer or philosopher taken unto himself the awful insult to the soul, the perpetual rape of the human race, the insanity and savagery and ruin, that ensue from the fact that the few thus hold the power of life and death over the many; that the few hold the power of freedom and bondage over the many; that the few pretend to hold even the gates of heaven against the many? Such is the unspeakable order of our world; and it is only because we are so stupified by centuries of servitude, so hypnotized by the imposture and brutality of authority, that we suffer such a world for a single hour. THE MONEY CHANGERS "We must drive the money-change- rs from the temple even as the Christ drove them in his day. Iu connection with all the frailties of human nature he was supremely charitable. The only ones he ever judged harshly, or ever really condemned, so far as we have any record, were those who bound burdens on other men's backs, who never raised even a finger to make them lighter, who sought ever to gain advantages at anothers disadvantage, who oppressed or who robbed the people. When we put forth restraining hands to hold in check or to drive completely out of business men who rend and tear the flesh from other men, simply that they may gorge themselves, not that they need food, then we will manifest somewhat the wisdom and insight that were manifested by him, who understood so fully our common human nature that he was all compasion and forgivenness for all save those who oppressed, who made burdens heavier, who sought for advantage to anothers disadvantage. THE WEEKLY MEETING The meeting of the Association held last Saturday night was the best, most enthusiastic and yet held. Upwards of two hundred were in attendance. The speakers were Howard Y.
