Y., on the afternoon of Friday, May 21st, in Kansas City, Mo., became the American champion shot and defender of the Kansas City Star cup, having killed 30 straight birds, and his 61 competitors. The contest began Thursday morning at the Missouri state shooting tournament with sixty-twentries. It was a 25 bird race for the wing championship of America and the Star cup, with a guaranteed purse of $1,000. When darkness stopped the shooting Thursday evening, Glover and J. M. Cra-bi- ll of Clarinda, la., out of about thirty who had shot, alone stood with clean scores of twenty-fivbirds. The shooting was renewed Friday morning and finished in the afternoon. Glover, Crabill and Duke' Lamb and C. C. Herman, both of Kansas City, who had killed their twenty-fivat five straight, began the shoot-of- f birds apiece. Crabill was the first to drop out, losing his first bird out of bounds.' Lamb was the next to lose, missing his fourth bird. Herman lost his fifth, leaving Glover with a out-distance- v 0 almost all the leading, landing repeatedly in every round on the wind with left swings and over the heart with right drives. The men fought so fast in the fourteenth that the end of that round found them both weak and at a standstill. The gong was all that saved McKeever in the fourteenth. Green went after him at the beginning of the round and kept at it, swinging his left on the body and punching when time was called. Then came the final round, McKeever coming up weak, while Green showed almost as much weariness. A couple of swings from Green on the body, and McKeever went reeling to the ropes. Green followed up, swinging right and left on head and putting in an occasional left swing on the body. He got McKeever in a corner and pounded him hard, until the latter clinched. When they broke away, Green stepped back into the middle of the ring, leaving McKeever leaning on the ropes with blood flowing from his nose. McKeever went down without any further blows and the referee announced Green the winner on account of McKeevers going down without being struck.
