Report of Mr. Liddiard, chairman of committee on Police and city Prison Reported that we have duly considered the claim of A. A. Noon, justice of peace aDd recommend that the claim be allowed. There were two or three items that the council could not make out. Aud Mr. Noon who was in an adjoining room was called to explain. The repot t was found correct, aud the claim for $14.85 was allowed and amount appropriated. Mr. Liddiard in behalf of the com mittee on Police aud city Prison to whom was referred the claim of Alex Wilkins for board of Prisoners recommended that the claim be allowed, and that in future 25 cents per meal be paid for board ef prisoners. Mr. Maibeu was not in favor of feed-n- g the prisoners on the fat of tbe land. He stated that prisoners as a rule where healthy men and be was of opinion that the city must feed the prisoner better than the restaurant does for last fall their were about 20 prisoners in Jail. He thought that if other cities could feqd them on 15 cents per meal, it could be done for ;ess that 25 cents in Provo city. It was not the object of tbe city to comt pete with restaurants In bills of fare. Mr. Liddiard stated that some men were put in Jail at night and were liberated in the morning after their trial and only having therefore one meal he considered that it would better for tbe city to pay 25 cents per mealtban SOcents p or day. Mr. Henricksen was of the same inion as the gentleman from tbe Fourth Ward, lie though it was bad policy for the city to feed them too well. And that should not have better meals than that are put on the table of the average citizens. Tbe claim was allowed, and tbe rt waa referred back to the committee for farther sonsideratlon. Gentlemen Your committee on street and alleys to whom was recommitted tbe report on the location of tbe electric light poles, report that we are of tbe opinion that only tbe poles at the extreme ends nerth and east should be further than one block apart, and we respectfully recommend that tbe electric light poles be erected at the intersection of 1st and J street thence 2d, and J, 8d and J. 4th and J, 6th and J, 6th and J, 7 and J, 9th and J, thence 7th and E, 7th and F, 7th and G, 7 an d II, 7th J and K, and 7th and M. L. A. Glazier, chairman. Mr. Henricksen called the attention ofthe council to the fact that lights were placed south and north of seventh street on J street, but none had been placed south of Seventh street on E street. He was of the opinion that the second ward had to be slighted. Mr, Glazier thought the only way to put the street on an equal footing was to blow out all the lights, and one had not been put south of E street. Mr. Maiben stated that one of tbe ghts were only put out for experiment and if the city concluded their was too much light in one place it could easily be removed. He tbougbt that the west enders were not equainted with the ideas of tbe committee. Mr, Dixon arose and objected to Mr. Maiben slurs as they were not there for that purpose. THUSRDAYB SESSION City Council met in special session Mayor Booth presiding; roll called; a full quorum present. An application from Pyne and Maiben for a license as retail liquor dealers was presented and upon filling the necessary bond the application was granted. Mayor Booth reported that he had negotiated with tbe Commercial and Sayings Bank for $3,000 at the rate of 10 per cent per annum. .On motion of Mr Maiben the report was accepted. Mr. Booth stated that since the meeting of the council there had been a very important meeting which was now in session and he understood that there were some gentlemen here from Salt Lake and they desired to have some of the eouncilois present; would leave it to the council as to whether they should adjourn. On motion of Mr. Dixon the meeting was adjourned until Monday evening at 8 F. M. the citv promised to make the other 100 rods.
