A. J. Johnson, Secretary Sir: I have examined the property of the the Marysville Gold and Silver Mining Company and make the following report : The property is situated on Ten Mile Creek, Mount Ealdy District, Utah Territory, and consists of the MalakofF, Clara, Fairview, and Legion of Honor mines. The first named is opened by a tunnel 5x7 feet, (good size for working purvein poses) and is in 35 feet, following a of white quartz, in the centre of which is a strata of chlorides from 6 to 12 inches wide. The whole vein will average $15 per ton, principally silver. The vein is encased in a porphyry formation, which is acknowledged by all engineers to be the most favorable for depth. is well defined, but the hanging The foot-wawall not in sight, and from the general formation I am led to believe that a much larger bodv of ore will be uncovered when the vein Some samples obtained from the is cross cut. face of this tunnel showed considerable black sulphurets, and the quartz is very close grained but easily crushed. The mouth of the tunnel is only 30 feet above the level of Ten Mile Creek, and the mountains sloping at an angle of more than (55 degrees it will be observed that depth is rapidly attained as it advances. The property is most advantageously situated for being developed by tunneling and expensive hoisting works being therefore unnecessary. f From tho immense croppings on the surface and the prospect holes sunk in different places all which show well, it is but reasonable to suppose there is a large amount of ore above the tunnel which can be sloped out and run through sliutes into the car into the tunnel be- The vertical depth low, thence to the dump. of the tunnel below the apex of the mountain is 10.JO feet; tlu veins running north and south dipping a little to the west and the About 150 feet mountains east and west. above these workings is another tunnel in only S feet on what is supposed to be a spur from the main vein. The vein matter is from 7 to 4-fo- ot ll feet wide but assays as high as $2S were ob- taiued. About 350 feet higher up another tunnel is in 4 feet and shows considerable vein matter. At the point of discovery, 1000 feet above the main tunnel, the vein has been stripped for 00 feet and shows up nicely. There being considerable snow, it was next to impossible to estimate the amount of ore on the dump at the mouth of the main tunnel, but would judge 50 tons, which will average about 810 per ton, though the value might be even S ft . less. The Clara is parallel and joins the Malakoll 'n the east; is 1,500 feet long and 300 feel wide. Onlv assessment work been done on his claim. The ore resembles that found ii Malakotr but the per cent, in gold is greater he vein can be traced nearly 1,000 feet or the surface, the croppings being prominent. The Fairview is (500 feet south of the Mala kolfand Clara and is located east and west oi the vein. As uncovered in several places tin vciu is 8 inches to 4 feet in width. Tin tonnaiion is porphyry. About $250 worth o Assessment work has been done on the Fairview 1 vein. Prospect holes have been sunk at dilferent points to define the vein, which is proved to be well defined and of fair milling grade. An open cut 50 feet long also shows tho vein. This claim joins the Pell mine oh tho south, from whicli some very fine gold ore has been obtained, I am informed, assaying as high as $40,000 per ton. Selected specimens from the Legion of Honor show tho vein to be mineral bearing to the extent of from $150 to $200 per ton, principally gold. A line south from the Monte del Roy, two and a half miles north of the Malakoif, and from which a large amount of very high grade gold ore has been taken, would pass through the Maiakoil and Clara, across the Fairview. through the Legion of Honor, Pell, and into the Stenhouse. The same character of quartz1 being found in the lattter as in the Monte del Rcy. Immediately around your group of mines I find the Rothschild, which is showing some remarkably rich free gold quartz; the Uncle Sam, owned by the Mount Raldv Mining Com- panv, also has a fine tine body of ore in sight ; the Sonoma, California, Lovisa ami Rattler, on on which are very at the depth of 220 feet. It is believed this vein will be cut within 100 feet. For the amount of development, the Fillmore makes a most excellent showing and is very advanta- geoualy situated for being thoroughly opened by tunnels, thus saving tho erection of expen. sive hoisting works at the There is the greatest abundance of timber for mining purposes within a mile, and the water power in the canyon, at the mouth of tunnel, is ample for all purposes say 200 inches. There are several tons of fine ore sacked and ready for shipment, but the bulk of that on the dump, say 100 tons (being covered by snow it is hard to estimate) will average about $35 per ton. Respectfully, Mark. V. Musgrove. out-set- -- r OHIO DISTRICT JOTTINGS. Relic of Monroe shaft down 20 feet showvein a of ing ; quartz slightly copper-staineassaying $17 and owned by John Ferris & Co. Morning Star Owned by Giles Eros, and Wernick, has an incline down on the vein (50 feot, the hitter being 3?, feet wide and carrying SO ounces in silver and from $5 to $12 gold. A shaft down 40 or 50 feet shows a vein 31 feet d prominent croppings; and the Hardware, owned bv Geo. M. Scott and others of this city, which has uncovered an immense body of fine ore. There is, perhaps, 200 inches of water in Ten Mile Creek sullicient for all purposes; and ail excellent mill site only a few hundred feet below7 the main tunnel on the Malakoif. The wood supply is abundant and cannot by anv means be exhausted in many years. The position of your property, as regards development, could not be better, and the showing generally is very ilattering. As to whether the gold belt spoken of runs through the Malakoif or Clara is a question, but there is no doubt of it passing through one of them, or, possibly, between these claims. Respectfully, ' w ft wide of good ore. II. Me Corkindale and Al. Ferris, owners, has a tunnel in SO feet on the vein which is from 4 to S feet wide and assays from 20 to 80 ounces in silver.
