The Hon, J. 11. Pullenwider, member of the National Bureau of Animal Industry for the territory west of the Mimimippi, has finished his report to the Commissioner of The report is emphatictlly in opposition to the proposed cattle trail of aix miles in width from the Bed River of the South to the 'RF River of the North, Concerning the monopolization of the public lands this conclusion is pre- Agri-culturf- c. Dsnonaead as b Schema to Uonopollas 2M7tO0,00O Aeras of tba Pub-li- e bytlto A PUBLISHING IHHIICLE THE PROPOSED CATTLE TRAIL d taken on storage The cry is raised by the cattle companies and stockmen of the Western country that it is selling so fut, and the number of cattle increasing so fast that in a few veara they will be crowded out. They are to ask the government to lease to them the public domain at one cent an acre, and urge ai one reason why the government should do so, that $12,600 would be thus annually added to the public revenue. This, at one cent, per acre, would give 1,250,000.000 acres of. land which these men wish to monopolise and control. This very claim of the enormoua revenue that would be paid to the Government shows the utter falsity of the statement that the Western ranges are with cattle. Correspondents from all over the West give less than ten seres on an average as the number required for the support of one head of stock. To avoid doing these very innocent land grabber! anykipjnry, let us put the number of acres required to support one head at 12$. Now multiply 23,000,000 cattle west of the Mississippi River by 12, and we have 287,600,000 as the number required to support all the cattle of this region, leaving acres that are not stocked. Thu vast amount of land is tho pnxa for which the wealthy cattle monopolies, controlled by foreign capital, are striving. Jt is a steal, anil should be so branded by the government authorities. While the cattle interest should be and every wise and honest effort made by it assisted, such wildcat schemes as that of leasing the public domain should be discouraged. d riOKEKK VANUFAC-Vurric- r. carries In- - stock and and Room JSS. to mte .Carriaga etc. Al nuninto ikini jSSSo ton. all kindsof deans and iSiup iTiecclaltr.
