R. R. LA MONTE. GOVERNMENT AID TO SPECULATORS. From the Sioux Falls Dally Press: The administration has converted the department hitherto known as the treasury department Into a sort of cheap bureau for the assistance and immediate relief 'of the stock brokers and speculative plungers of Wall street. A few days ago an appeal came from Wall street for help. The report was that mouey was scarce and speculators were compelled to pay high rates for its use. Investigation followed. It was given out with autli-ritin Washington that the investigation Bhowed that the shortage of money was only apparent. There was mouey enough for all legitimate business. Persons able to give good security could get all the cash needed at reasonable rates. The stringency was in the purely speculative circles. Long time loans were easy; cull loans hard. Banks had quit letting the trust promoters and scheme plungers have money to play with, lienee no relief would be given by the government. It was also said that there was no danger of a panic in business circles in the West where the crops were good and had an iniluence. But alas and alack; the excuse bad not been fairly digested before Cage sends out a notice offering to buy bonds at current rates to supply the New Yorkers with ready money and relieve the Btru'.n. And the brokers are selling bonus to get cash with which to continue their speculations. The United States furnishes the money. Srnco the administration had declared that there was no stringency in legitimate trade, it follows that the relief offered is to the plungers and speculators. They alone were clammore for money. Trust promooring tion had up the ready ensh and the trust promoters wanted more. They are getting it. Uncle Sam payB the hill. All Over The World. Does anybody suppose that If the farmers or laboring men or any other class of American citizens engaged in legitimate industry had appealed for aid to the treasury department, Gage And Mr. Agufnaldo's feeble paraphrases of Jefferson will not make him rule where Jeffersons descendants have raised their flag.
