Show 1 W?f t Farmington offers girls basketball league Recreation Great hunt predicted I predict a great elk hunt this year. There are lots of elk, many are quality bulls, says Mike Welch, Division of Wildlife Resources Big Game Program Coordinator. With the general season for elk only a week away, DWR still has over 10,000 Spike bull, and 1,300 Any bull," residential permits for sale. Resident elk permits are $50 each for general season hunts. This year DWR has changed yearling bull units into Spike bull," units, causing some confusion among hunters. A Spike bull, has at least one antler that has no branches longer than one inch above the ear. Furthermore, DWR has redefined Any bull, units this year. Hunters holding any Any bull, permit may only hunt in any Any bull, unit. They may not hunt in Spike only, units. The new regulations provide a chance for hunters to choose between the higher success rates offered by Spike only, units and the opportunity to harvest a large bull in an any bull, unit. Last year hunters were limited to either a bull elk or a buck deer permit following caps on permit sales. This year, however, hunters have the opportunity to hunt both. bulls and bucks. Elk permits may be purchased at local license agents or at DWR Regional offices. Offices are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday but will be closed Monday Oct. 9 to observe the Columbus Day holiday. We give a lot of thought to our boat and its equipment and condition but dont think much about getting it from its storage place to the water. A little thought about the boat trailer can save a lot of grief. A trailer problem can make a possible d day a disaster. Some of the things to consider are proper maintenance, proper connection to the towing vehicle, proper size and type of trailer and proper hitch. fun-fille- The snowy mountain peaks and bright colors on the trees announce that we are well into fall. It is the time when hunters pull out their bright orange sweatshirts or camouflage rain coats, dust off their rifles or shotguns, and dream of taking a trophy animal or bagging a limit of birds. Fall brings the hunting seasons. in recent times. For those who are interested in pursuing something larger than a duck, the general elk season is just around the corner. It opens on October 11, which is next Wednesday. The elk hunt in Utah has undergone some interesting developments in recent years. To limit the number of hunters afield, the available permits were capped at 36,000. Twenty thousand were identified as spike permits and 16,000 were identified as any bull permits. As of last weekend, there were nearly 12,000 elk those being for spike only hunts. If the forecasts hold true, duck hunters wont be disappointed in Hunters with these permits are limited to any bull units, just as the spike only permit holders have been increasing for the past branches above the ears. The wet spring provided heavy vegetation and nutritious food supplies which are limited to spike only units. If you are hunting elk, ducks, or planning for the deer hunt, pick up a proclamation and review the details. There are a few new changes each year, and it pays to be on top of the regulations. Take along your survival kit, tell someone where you are going before you leave, and have a great hunt. There is no better way to spend the fall. calls for. The coupler on the hitch One of the most important items to check are the wheel bearings. Placing the trailer wheels in the water can cause deterioration of the grease in the bearings. You should check bearing grease and add if necessary before each excursion. On modern trailers this is not difficult. Wiring and light bulbs are affected by water immersion as well as heat and sunlight. Check all trailer lights before leaving and take a look at all wiring which is visible. Be sure should say what size ball it requires. Be sure to have a pin or bolt through the device that attaches the coupler to the ball. Safety chains are required and should be crossed under the hitch so that if the ball and coupler fail the trailer tongue will not hit the ground, dig in and cause the trailer to somersault. The S hooks on the chains should be hooked with the S facing back to the trailer to prevent their jumping free.
