Rodeo Queen in 1976, and was one of four finalists in the national contest, Miss as well as being voted Congeniality. The rodeo expanded to three performances that year. Ralph Baker was club president in 1977, when new bleachers and wire fencing were added to the rodeo grounds. Kim Payne was junior riding club president, and Lisa Shaw was the club sweetheart. Brent (Angus) Robins is chairman of the rodeo, which will include not only saddle and bareback bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, team tying, steer wrestling and barrel racing, but the popular wild horse races and a new event, broom polo. Members of the Salina Riding Club, which sponsors the rodeo, will divide into teams for the special rodeo entertainment. In past years, broom polo was a regular activity of the dub. Fireworks will climax the rodeo performance on the Fourth of July, and dances, at the American Legion Hall, will follow the rodeo on Friday and Saturday, July 4 and July 5.
