Their prices for BIC pencils are almost $ 1 cheaper than other stores, and the packages come with more in them. Next comes the companion to the pencil: the pen. Oh, and I guess musical talent plays something of a part in the enjoyment of our typical local show as well. ( kwm By MATT! HOWARD TX correspondent kids! to be a of the new craze sweeping the nation? Want to impress your schoolmates? Do you feel like being shoved around by a bunch of burly, roady-typ- e ruffians? If your answer is an eager and emphatic: Yes, Matt! Where do I sign up?! then listen closely, friends and neighbors. Im about to relate to you vital information about one of the coolest things to come along since American scientists learned to make baby dolls wet themselves - Watching Local Bands and All the Details Involved. A long time ago, when I was wallowing in that tender age of 15, 1 attended my very first local concert. I dont remember the names of any of the bands I saw, nor do I care to. The only thing I really remember for sure is that it was loud, and therefore cool. Hey -- Illustration by MATT! HOWARD ,y The fact that the bands playing had no talent whatsoever was completely irrelevant, and the fact that the cops had to clear the place out because it was overcrowded only made the night more memorable. I was slightly irked, however, at the lack of meat in the chili this was a - benefit concert, and these vegetarians can go too far. Its all OK with me until those people who put these benefit concerts on start messing with the chili. I mean, come on, there has to be a line drawn somewhere! - But anyway, after being ushered out of that small building by police force, and after disposing of my chili by gently chucking it against the wall of the adjacent office building, I left that particular show a changed man. Eventually my ability to hear did return, though. Since that fateful night, now that I am older, wiser and infinitely more mature, it takes a lot more than sheer volume to impress me. I demand cage I have attended quite a few shows since then - some good, some horrible, and some that left me drooling, rolling on the floor and crying out for sheer joy. Some of these bands out there are THAT GOOD, ladies and gentlemen. Id even go so far as to say that some bands are better than some big bands that Ive seen play in my long and illustrious career as a teenager. And you dont have to pay fifty bucks to see em, either. In fact, for an average price of about a fiver, any normal, average Chet can see four or five bands play their set. How could you go wrong?! Believe it or not, Utah does have quite the thriving music scene, and if all this sounds like fun to you, see if you' can go watch some of these acts play. Just swing by your local CD store or check the local magazines for the concert nearest you. Do it while you still can, people, because youre going to be seeing some of these bands sell out arenas and making total goons of themselves on MTV in no time - that , is, if MTV still plays actual music videos by then. Matt! Howard, a recent graduate of Bonneville High School, says his hobbies are eating and sleeping. He also makes ' claymation movies. He added the ! to his name about a year ago, and he likes it 'so much tluit he 's decided it s a keeper. |
