Dolly'" is the musical story of Dolly Gallagher Levi's efforts to marry the neh Horace Vandergclder. The show is set at the turn of the century and opens on a day when the principal characters. along with the entire citizenry of Manhattan and Yonkers. N.Y., are awaiting new events in their lives. The role of Dolly will he portrayed by Ten Cowan. Cowan is a graduate of WSU and is an original member of the l!MT company. She has played leading roles in several UMT productions including "Oliver!" "Baby." Most .recently and Pippin Cowan played the peasant woman in Salt Lake Acting Company's "Incorruptible." "This is a story about taking a step in a new direction Dolly is trying to get back into the mainstream of life and Horace is searching for a new companion," Caywood said "The comedic situations, mixed with some of the most memorable songs of American musical theater, give audience members the chance to discom-pane- cover the adventure-seekin- g nature of the characters. However, it's not just the storyline that makes this production such an adventure. "Hello Dolly! cast and audi- ence are also in for a whole new experience," he said. "The restoration of the Egyptian Theater has generated a lot of excitement in the community and the company is thrilled to have such a beautiful new home. Each feeds the excitement of the other." Because the architecture at the Egyptian Theater ts so distinctive, Caywood has incorporated an Egyptian undertone into the Academy From 5 important that they go to the Academy. It's important that they go to school and do well, whether they take ROTC, whether they choose the Air force Academy or a regular college to go to, that is their decision. 1 will help them go in any direction they want to go into." Scheeres and Gosma credit much of their ambition to attend the Academy to family ties. Seeing my parents in the Air Force were really good examples, Scheeres said. They have great leadership qualities They were the main reason I wanted to join the military. Murphys father is also an Academy graduate I have wanted to go there as long as 1 can remember, he said. Scheeres, Gosma and Murphy were in the ROTC together at Northndge. Murphy moved to Virginia his senior year, but completed all of his ROTC training at Northndge, taking an extra course during his junior year. Most recently he starred in the WSU productions of "Grapes of Wrath" and "Pippin." Other leads include: Jared Hunt of Ogden as Bamaby; Kendra Clark of Layton, as Irene; Melissa Pond of Salt Lake City as Ermcngarde; Alex Gunn of Provo, as Ambrose; Jennifer Rapp of Glascoe. Mont, as Minnie Fay; and Ty Hrcben of Washington, D.C., as Cornelius. Caywood comes to UMT from the Pioneer Theater Company in Salt Lake City, where he has served 10 seasons as the resident production stage manager and directed several productions.
