Show Computer donated Make plans to attend BYU production of I Remember Mama March 26 to April 2 Cats, cars and children will fill the stage of the Pardoe Drama Theater during the next two weeks when the BYU drama department presents the touching family I Remember Mama," as its comedy, entertainment offering for the family during the second annual Festival of Mormon Arts, presently taking place at BYU. As well as being good wholesome entertainment the play was chosen because of its warm family element and the important message about family unity and the beauty of the family which it depicts according to its "director, Dr. Preston Gledhill. It is filled with humor, tenderness and pathos. ,( In order to make it possible for families to attend the play together, the entrance fee for children and students has been reduced to 25 cents. Adult admission is $1.50. Special matinee performances will be held at 1:30 p.m. on March 1 and Evening performances will April 2. 1 begin at 7:30 p.m. on March 8, and April 2. An authentic 1911 Ford, one of the earliest Ford's produced, will add color and mood to the drama. The F ord owned by Don J. Black of Provo has been restored as nearly as possible to its original state. It is complete with kerosene lamps, a 30-3- 26-2- 30-3- rumble seat and a flower holder and its bright gold and yellow colors add zest to the production. I Remember Mama is indeed a family play. It tells the story of a Norwegian family as seen through the eyes of the eldest daughter, Katrin, portrayed by Tracy Bedney. Mama, portrayed by Laile Hallows, papa, portrayed by Val Johnson, and the other children, portrayed by Becky Nibley, Jeame McKmght and Alan Foote live through several adventures which made up life in San Francisco in the early 1900s. The play is full of lively characters, such as the forbidding Uncle Chris, portrayed by George King, the whimpering, whining and bossy aunts, portrayed by Sharia Rees, Jackie Dorn and Star Hayner. Other members ofthe cast include Craig Swenson, Joann Briggs, Kent Davis, Paul Cheesman, Wendy Woolsey, Gail Bishop, Bruce Brown, Connie Rae Colton, Cheryl Baker, Jennifer Dalton, Willard Mickel-so- n and Marvin Gardner. Lee Russell is assistant director for the production. 1 Remember Mama was originally produced on Broadway by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II. It was adapted from the book, Mamas Bank Account." Mountain Fuel Supply Company donated an IBM series 1620 computer and a 1622 card reader punch to the State of Utah Monday. The equipment together comprises a 1620 second generation computer system. At a brief ceremony in Mountain Fuel's general office building, 180 East 1st South, M. M. Fidlar, Company president, made the presentation to the State by way of a letter to Gov. Calvin L. Rampton in which he said: We understand Dr. T. H. Bell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, has use for this equipment for instructional purposes for seconday school pupils throughout the State. We are particularly happy to see this equipment devoted to such a fine use, and we hope many thousands of young Utahns will benefit. With this gift goes the very best wishes of all the officers, directors and employees of Mountain Fuel Supply Company." In accepting the gift, Governor Rampton expressed thanks for the State and declared: This is a most generous gift. I am sure we can put it to very good use. We are trying to do the best we can to interest young people in computer science. There is a great demand for people in this field." Dr. Bell, who also attended the ceremony, reiterated the thanks of the Governor and said the computer equipment would be an invaluable aid to the states instructional program. Mr. Fidlar siad the 1620 second generation computer system became available after Mountain Fuel installed an IBM 360 series computer to take care of its growing needs. The latter computer has greater capacity and versatility than the former, he noted. Governor Rampton said the donated computer equipment will be moved from Mountain Fuel offices to a school site yet to be selected, where it will be put to instructional use by the State Department of Educaton. Lest we forget at Easter season... Lest we forget Charles Chuck Warren, Utah Highway Patrolman who was critically injured September 2 in Springville in a shootout, is recuperatng at the University of Utah Hospital following surgery (the third) undergone late in February. This time a metal plate was inserted into his skull to aid in the correction of extensive bone damage that he suffered at the time of the accident. He is now undergoing therapy. One admires Chuck as he continues ve of mind and heart and with some humor. Recently I was reading a verse from Count Your Blessings" written by Edgar A. Guest. The name of the poem was Courage and the man it reminded me'of was Chuck. May I share it with you? Courage isnt a brilliant dash, A daring deed in a moments flash; Principals assigned in Nebo District Principal assignments in the Nebo school School District for the 1970-7- 1 year have been announced by Dr. Joe A. Reidhead, superintendent. Dr. Reidhead reports there are two vacancies in the principal staff at the present time. One man is needed for a one-yeassignment at the Brookside Elementary School, Springville, where Principal Ray Clark will be taking a sabbatical leave to work on his doctorate in education. The second vacancy will be in the Taylor Elementary School, Payson. The principal of that school, Merrill Ashby, will move school in Spanish Fork to Central-Ree- s next year. Art Grotegut, principal of Central-Ree- s, will retire at the end ofthe current school year. Nelson, Park School in Spanish Fork; Richard LaMar Wilson, Payson Mid- - lecture planned A Christian Science lecture titled What Are We Looking For? will be given by Martin Broones, C.S.B., in Salt Lake City on Tuesday March 31, at 8 p.m. The lecture will be held at The Salt Palace. Originally from New York City, Mr. Broones attended Columbia University and later studied musical composition under John Ireland of the Royal College of Music in London. He has written many sacred songs and musical scores for popular light operas. After organizing and directing the first music department in the motion picture industry for Me Studios in Hollywood, he became a producer of motion pictures and radio programs. Mr. Broones, a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, currently lives in Beverly Hills, California.
