All-eve- Lou All-eve- Dear Reader: I suppose some of the sad stories of modern civilization come from installment buying. I reckon it has to be practiced by all of us at one time or another, but woe to us who burden ourselves with more outgo than income. One of my favorite readers, Bishop Glen Larsen of Leland recently drew my attention to this sad story. It is taken from the diary of a young feller who believed all he heard over the radio and TV and read in the magazines and newspapers about buying things on the 'Easy Payment Plan. January...Began work at my new job today. Can hardly wait until payday. Just needs. This does not consider the problem confronting us if Congress does not pass adequate legislation to maintain impacted aid money, vocational support and some other Federal programs. Nebo could lose up to $125,000 during this current year and also next year. This also means that we must cut the current program either by reducing services or by increasing the classroom load. Nebo already has one of the highest pupil teacher ratios in the State. We will try to provide more information as the 1970-7- 1 budget is de- 24 pay. February 18... A little late with car paythis month. Will have to let the stereo payment go over to next week, as I got a set of books and paid $10.00 down. Very fine books. Everyone should have a set. March l...Am to be married today. Lucky fellow. Everybody envies me. A fine job with prospects for the future, and the best looking girl in town for a wife. From a good family too. Well respected. The boss gave me a week off for a honeymoon ment trip. March 16...Thank goodness all our furniture is bought. Was surprised to learn how much you can get for a little. They said my father has a very good credit standing in the community. The salesman was so nice. Borrowed $50 from the boss to meet the car payment and the payment on the ring. April..Borrowed $100 from my insurance policy to pay the $50 1 borrowed from the boss and make the payment on the furniture. The stereo man came to take the stereo, but we put out the lights and were not home. The chump hung around all evening and we couldnt listen to the stereo or read the books. May 21...Borrowed $250 from the finance company to meet the payments on the ring and car and a little on the furniture. Couldnt pay all the furniture bill as I had to make a $50 down payment on a real estate development. This land ought to jump in value; then I can sell and pay off everything. The loan is only 3 per month interest and the principal payments are monthly. Had to get Uncle Tom to sign with me to get the loan. July 18...Somehow I dont miss the stereo much. And you can get plenty of books from the library. Am trying to arrange a character loan at the bank for $350. If I could only borrow that much, I would be in fine shape. July 25...Bank says they investigated and found I have no character. What a bunch of crooks. Am trying to sell the land. September 30...The garage man is holding the car for a labor job and repair bill; what right has he to hold the car? It doesnt belong to me. October 18...It isnt any use. I had to let the car go. Anyway, I would rather have the piece of land. If I could only raise the $30 to meet the payment on the piano. car today on the Bought a second-han- d basis. November 21...Income stopped. The creditors just wouldnt wait any longer so they garnisheed my wages. Uncle Tom certainly raved when he had to pay my loan of $250 at the Finance Company. Who thought he would be like that? I used to be his favorite nephew. December 15,..Lucv to have a new baby soon. Am I proud! The doctor said he would wait for his bill but the hospital bill must be raised somewhere. January 15... Lost everything but wife Celia a real close game Payson Friday, as Lehi pulled up and finally went ahead in the final minutes of the The Lions started off like gang game. at the busters, getting out in front 15-first quarter, and taking a 0 lead to the locker room at half time. But, the second half proved their undoing. If anyone can come up with an answer to the preplexing problem, of a team cooling off during half time, Joe Worthen certainly would like to hear it, also probably Stan Watts, and a lot of other basketball coaches. Can you imagine the ulcers that would be eleimi-nate- d if it were possible to solve this problem? You could write your own ticket. Terry Carter really had a hot hand during the first half particularly, hitting five field goals in the first half plus 2- -2 from the foul line. Terry hit his high scoring night output again with 19. He also hit for 19 against Springville. The guards were really alive, Gary Powell scored 10 points and Dennis Lamb hit for 4. This may have been due to the double teaming of Gary Weight, leaving the guards open a little more, and they certainly took advantage of the situation. Hinton, for Lehi scored 21, and he certainly gave Payson a bad time all night. The JVs 5. beat Lehi in a 6:15 game, Dont forget, Friday 6:15 for the JVs and 8:00 for the Varsity against Number 1 in Utah County, Orem, and the Giants? Thats what the kids from Lehi called them. Said when they went up for a rebound it was like jumping in the midst of a forest, all you could see were legs Orem beat Lehi by 29 points, so the Lions had better sharpen up their claws, and rememer what they did to the Bulldogs, and give the same treatment to the Tiger. Dont forget to keep the funds rolling in for the football bleachers. Jack Etheringtonsays things are coming fine, all that is needed is more money. Even a buck or so will help. Nothing is too small, or for that How about a family matter too large. getting together, putting in enough to get a plaque on a seat in the family name. Then it would stand for posterity. Also, every business house in the entire Payson marketing area should feel a moral obligation to show their support ofthe facility by making sure they have a seat or seats tagged with the company name. Id expect also the dairy and cattle men would get into the act along with the fruit growers and farmers. This is for such an induring facility, it seems everyone should want to participate. The stands will be here for your children, and for your grandchildren too. Dont short change the next two generations. 12 27-2- Ray Wallen with prize winning horse, Funquest Wallis, B Bar S Ranch Arena. A new program for career development aimed at dropout prevention provides $225,000 to develop pilot projects. Nebo will have to compete with other districts for a portion of this fund. We appreciate the interest of legislators and tax payers in appropriating and financing the funds for education but it is going to be difficult to maintain the current educational program with available funds. 31 at 6:30 p.m., 30 Wakara memand guests boarded a bus and headed for Salt Lake City. Better check your calendar because the first day of fishing will be June 6 and not May 30. The Lions hosted the Pioneers from Lehi last Friday and much to their displeasure, were a gracious host, losing in the last few seconds after leading much of the game. Really, it was a most exciting game, well played, with loads of action and except for a couple of bad breaks should have been won by Payson. Carter led the scoring with 19 points. Games this week, find Payson traveling to Pleasant Grove, Wednesday and being home Friday night to play against the leading team in region four, Orem. Earlier action by the Board of Fish and Game set the 1970 opening day as May 30, which was after the Memorial day set by Utah legislative action. In the state legislative session just completed, the 1970 Memorial day observance was again changed, now back to the old date of May 30. Fishing season open on Memorial day? Too much conflict, according to the members of the Board of Fish and Game, so they have moved the 1970 opening date back one week to June 6. An amendment to the angling rules will be issued, noting the change, and new fishing proclamations are now being printed with the correct dates and will be distributed to the public in plenty of time for the 1970 general season.
