Show THE Payson, Utah HOME BE CAREFUL OF LITTER The hunter who doubles as a litterbug is a spoilsport. Indiscriminate littering is resulting in hunting grounds being closed and, in some cases, may actually be harmful to game, according to a survey of fish and game departments just completed by Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the national organization. Thirteen states reported that land had been closed to hunters because of littering. In North Dakota, for example, it is reported that 200 sites, comprising some 50,000 acres, have been closed. In Connecticut it is estimated that up to 3, 500 acres a year are being closed to hunters. Some 10,000 acres have been closed in West Virginia. A number of states reported that while they had no records, it land was being posted by farmers and other private land owners because of various abuses by hunters, including littering. While most of those answering the KAB questionnaire did not feel that litter is harmful to game, respondents in nine states felt that it is damaging to some degree. The report from New Jersey said contaminated litter may be contributing factor to botulism in waterfowl. A South Dakota expert said litter destroys the habitat of waterfowl. The Alabama respondent said that by its very nature littering is harmful to all wildlife, including game species." The only trouble is I seldom have to make the choice so I sometimes even end up doing both together. During my childhood and teenage years I know I often would be reading a particularly exciting book and the awful possibility would dawn on me that something dreadful might come into my life preventing me from finishing the book, and I would read every instant I could so that I could finish it and not be left wondering how it turned out. This had its good and bad points Im sure. I read as quickly as possible thus developing a fast reading method, I also adapted myself to various surroundings so that I could read almost anyplace. Many times when others my age were out playing, competing at sports or learning various skills I was curled up some place with a book. However, already in such places as Rome, Tokyo and Paris it is a reality. So, dont be surprised if within three or four years the local dress shops are displaying mens miniskirts. Of course, there will be cries of outrage and dire predictions of the implications. Among other things, advertising will be blamed for having perpetrated the style on a gullible public. No doubt the merchants will use advertising to sell the radically new merchandise. The first brave American men who dare to appear in the apparel will be branded as sissies and worse. Yet, there is nothing radically new about men wearing miniskirts. They were worn by the warriors of ancient Rome and Sparta including Alexander the Great. Nb one ever accused the Spartans or the Roman legionnaires of being sissies. And since advertising was somewhat limited in the early centers of civilization, the styles could hardly be blamed on intrigues of unscrupulous advertising men. The truth is that until the century mens styles womens styles. often and more than more changed drastically Clothing was a reflection of practical needs of the time and the culture of the particular civilization. The tailors and the merchants who made profit were those that first recognized the inevitable change and built a reputation for supplying the wants of the time. Ferhaps miniskirts for men will never be widely accepted in America, but if they are, the reatiler who takes the initiative in advertising will reap the profits from the style. by Ruth RoHw Use (c) Mflht it 2.
