Show r l“r 6773 Just a Line of Chatter 67732 MAKE YOUR DOLLAR GO FARTHER BUY IN GARLAND Wheat Garland Day Is almost here And is ready to greet the largest crowd of visitors in its history on this eventful day Volume VI Garland Utah Friday August 18 1933 Number 3 Garland Lions Two booster trips were made during the past week in the interests of the Wheat Day celebration — the first to Portage last Friday night when a large group of Lions and Garland citizens and the Garland band travelled to that city and entertained and advertised Wheat Day Hold Meeting Ill Monday evening a sunilar trip was made to Bear River City add both trips were acclaimed successes The spirit of cooperation thus displayed is gratifying and commendable Garland was the scene of an unfortunate and disastrous fire last Satur- lay when the building ocupied by the Western Creamery burned to the ground While no blame to any individual is attached to this statement it was a fire that could have been extingulshed with but & slight loss had Garland had a fire department x - The fire truck with its booster pump is an efficient bit of aparatus and every bit capable of handling any thing in the line of a fire that may come up in this city But the best equipment in the world is of no value unless trained hands are on the Job The fire In the creamery building was discovered before it had much of a start and when the truck arrived on the scene the chemical tank was corroded and therefore of no use The new fire hose was hooked up and the pump started and then it was discovered that the nozzles on hand were of a different size and thread than the hose which had been purchased but recently By the time a nozzle was procured from Tremonton the building was gone and the Wood home adjacent to the burning Puild- lng was In serious danger Garland Lions club met In regular luncheon session Wednesday night and heard reports from all committees In regard® to the final plana for Wheat Day this Saturday All la in readiness to make this an unusually successful event tills year The boxing committee has arranged its card as follows: ' Grover East Garland vs Green Wellsville at 153 pounds Haws Plymouth vs -
