team well as We need to keep pU ing improving” "If a student has missed school it is a good possibility he she won't graduate" said Mr Dave Noah principal The state law says that after two truancies the student goes to court with a parent A truancy is a sluff “All excessive absences are dealt with on a personal basis" said Mr Ken Nielsen school counselor After each grading period Mr Nielsen evaluates each student to make sure he she is at a standard level “If students are falling short send a letter showing what they are missing (credit and attendance) and also call their parents to make sure they know” said Mr Nielsen All seniors should know before graduation if they need to make things up No seniors should be shocked if they don’t graduate Seniors who have missed school and worried about not receiving a grade in a class need to discuss their attendance with the teacher "The teachers are the ones who are in charge of giving a grade or not” said Mr Fowles The administration takes the position that it is up to the students if they want a high qual ity education and naturally if they do students will miss the least days posare sible students attendance affects their grade 'The policy we (the administration! have is that we want students to be in school and attend every single day said Principal Noah "Ve believe that the best attendance policy there is is to have something meaningful or important enough that kiUs feel like they need to be in class day on time" said Mr P Dean Fowles Every high school student has had the to have a class he she opportunity couldn't miss or be tardy in because they know that if they do they will miss something important for getting a good grade in that class “I know that certain classes can miss because would fall behind and it s hard ent to get the same stuff that the teacher over in class later” said Heidi Draper varsity cheerleader on the high honor roll A plan that has been proposed is to "have something at the beginning ofclass every day so that the student knows not to miss or be tardy because those points w ill be taken aw ay from their grade" said Mr Fowles This plan is to obey the theory of the law Instead of students looking at their attendance they would be look at their grades and say "I missed these days and so got 0 on these quizzes "The administration thinks that the ulty and staff are doing a wondeiful job We They really are" said Mr Fowles " just like to improve Eric Hintze the Delta boys basketball team receiv ed a less then cordial send off loss at Juab the following their Delta boys
