Show Father Walter Riendeau-prie- st theologian scholar Business of the Week Shari Ashworth Life is a challenge for the new owner of The Printing Parlour The new owner of The Printing Parlour in Fillmore Shari Ashworth is young ambitious and full of Life is a challenge for her “spunk” and she greets each day with enthusiasm “I was really apprehensive about owning my own business” she admitted “However I figured would be out nothing for trying I want to succeed so I believe that can” The whole ownership proposition happened very quickly Tim and Leisa had and owned Carling operated The Printing Parlour for several years One day in the grocery store Tim asked Shari if she wanted to buy the business They joked and left it at that didn’t really dismiss the notion for the idea lingered in Shari’s mind The next day she went to the bank secured a loan and after three days cepted Tim’s offer and challenge “Many people said that I wouldn't make it” Shari said “and I was scared s to death Still it all happened so if it was meant to be!” Once she dove into the business waters “it was he husband Mike as And great” always has supports her endeavor 100 percent Shari’s roots are in Although Fillmore she graduated from Beaver High School (It was there that she met Mike Ashworth) After graduation she attended Southern Utah State College in Cedar City on a music scholarship “I love to sing” she shared Never one to be idle Shari has had a variety of work experiences in her young life Following their marriage the Ashworths moved to New Mexico where Mike worked on construction While there Shari managed a trailer park sold real estate and was on the Board of Directors for the Realtors’ Board Then they decided to move “home” to Fillmore Back in Fillmore Shari worked for security at IPP for two years When that job ended she went to insurance school became a licensed insurance salesperson in 1984 and began selling burial insurance A little after Shari started selling surance Mike decided to try his hand in the same work He too became licensed Two years ago Collette Hunt decided to give up Farmers’ Insurance in Fillmore and Mike interviewed for the position “Many people wanted the job” Shari Ashworth commented Mike was the successful candidate Together he and Shari have run the business since that time This is the second year Shan Ashworth has been President of the Fillmore Chamber of Commerce and she is definitely a believer in her home town “There is great potential in Fillmore I like it lots life is good here and love Chamber work” What better person could there be at the helm of an organization designed to promote the area? The Chamber office during Shari’s had been housed in a presidency smaller room of the Ashworths’ surance building located at 195 North However Main Street in Fillmore when Shan bought The Printing the business took over the Parlour space where the Chamber event that would have taken place later this year So— now the Ashworths are side by side with the insurance and the printing businesses As she appears to be about most things Shari is bubbly and enthusiastic when she talks about her very own shop “I enjoy the creativity that the job entails and the fun ideas and challenges the people bring in to me” she said For Tim and Leisa Carling former owners she has nothing but been really praise “The Carlings have good to me They are just super people and they continue to support me as purthey have all along From them chased good stock Then they started me with about $900 worth of business Not many people would do that!” Just what does The Printing Parlour Business entail and offer? From his earliest years in elementary school Walter Riendeau believed that he would become a priest He attended St Jerome’s and St Aloysius’ elementary schools and two years at Collingwood High all in Cleveland His last two years of high school and the first two of college were spent at Miner Seminary in Suffem New York Seminary studies seem to be quite rigorous When first at the seminary the young student delved into both Latin and Greek along with traditional high school academics This was but the first step in education and training for a religious life four years in Miner Following Father Walter spent two Seminary years of very special training in the Novitiate in Cleveland “There it was like a two year long retreat” he explained It was at the conclusion of this period of time that he first took his vows of poverty chastity and obedience At the end of each year for three years the vows were renewed Permanent vows were made following the three year period Along with the religious training the There scholarly pursuits continued were two years of philosophy and Hebrew plus four years of theology Then from 1945 through 1950 Father Walter attended St Joseph’s Seminary (SSS) also in Cleveland Ohio He was ordained on September 23 1951 in St Aloysius Church by The Most Rev Floyd Begin Aux of Cleveland Education was not terminated with From 1950 until 1953 ordination Father Walter was a student at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome Italy earning an STB in theology and a degree in Canon law (The latter degree is in a layman’s terms similar to a law degree The recipient is an authority on church law and as such serves as a lawyer in church matters) Walter Riendeau belongs to the religious order known as the CongregaThis tion of the Blessed Sacrament order was founded in Paris France in 1856 by St Peter Julian Eymard (Pope John 23rd canonized Peter Julian Eymard) Throughout the world there are 100 members of the order grouped in provinces which are below the head Father Walter is in the in Rome American Province where he serves as the Vicar General (vice president) and the Procurator General (attorney general)Believing in the Socratic method Father Walter says that he “loves teaching because there am with people and I like to see minds awaken” After his graduation for the Gregorian University in Rome he spent ten years in Australia as a Professor of Canon Law Director of Students and Professor of Moral Theology Back in the United States he continued to teach in Wisconsin various locations-Oh- io as director for New junior brothers (those still in temporary vows) Interspersed with his assignments in the US was a period ) spent in Rome performing legal duties There Father Walter was serving as Vicar General and Procurator General working on religious law During this time he also traveled around the world to various communities within the Order of Blessed Sacrament Immediately following the last European duties Father Walter served as Director of a retreat house in Cleveland From there he went to Las and Superior Angeles as pastor Chaplain for a "huge” hospital and a juvenile hall Since then he has taken a renewal course served as Chaplain in Pueblo Colorado and managed the Paraclete (This word means in Christianity “the Holy Spirit considered as comforter intercessor or advocate”) Gift Shop for four years The next step fortunately for this area was the move to Delta Actually Father Walter is Pastor of St Patrick’s Church in Eureka serving the two mission churches of Fillmore and Delta It is in Delta however that he lives This assignment is an outreach of the Salt Lake religious community in which Father is still a full member Father Walter says that it is “a challenge to be a Catholic in this area” Acknowledging the Catholic presence here is an important part of his ministry There are as in other Chrisin Delta fewer tian congregations members of St John Bosco Catholic Church than there were when IPP was in full swing Presently there are between 90 and 100 people Daily mass is at 5:30 pm Sunday service is at 10 am and Bible classes are on Monday evening in Services are also conducted Fillmore and Eureka A house has been purchased on Main Street in Fillmore in which the Catholics meet Father Walter says that his plans are to remodel and extend the building to make it look like a church There are of course responsibilities other than preparing for and leading mass and Bible studies Father Walter has administrative duties and he tends to the needs and problems of his parishioners
