Edwards Jennifer Dearden Tiffany Robins Susan Christiansen They are really excited to be working with Miss Julie Whitney the new advisor AFTER TWO WEEKS Regina Surprise tribute to longtime advisor On May 19 1987 the Millard Eagle FFA Chapter under the direction of Pres Doug Stott and fellow officers presented a surprise tribute to their advisor Robert A Nielson at the annual Parents and Member Banquet This program was in the form of a slide presentation and marked the culmination of this 35 years in the Dept at Millard High School It was brought out that he has devoted a lifetime of service to vocational agriculture and related civic and professional concerns and has been recognized as a giant contributor in his field receiving numerous awards on state and region as well as national levels He was commended for his long record of community service including city council and mayor and also his years of service in the LDS Church holding many responsible positions such as Bishop and High Councilman He is a devoted husband and exemplary father and his family was introduced to the guests The boys spoke of their great respect and admiration for this leader who had so instrumental in their been achievements in this program Many of his former students who had been chapter presidents andor been elected as Utah State FFA Officers under his tutorship traveled hundreds of miles to honor and pay tribute to his training and established traditions of success They noted that he has consistently participate in a math competition of this nature I congratulate both the Rachel Henke and the recipient donor Merrill Dutson for the scholarship” Rachel competed with 14 seventh grade students to solve a special math problem The process consisted of solving several related problems leading to one final answer The math concepts and computations are representative of those taught in grades up to and cluding 7th grade math Rachel’s name will be the first to appear on the scholarship plaque and she will receive from Mr Dutson a $200 check plus interest at the time of her graduation from high school through the cooperation of the college of her choice Mr Dutson will add the name of an annual winner to the plaque and will donate the $200 annually to accumulate interest until the time of the recipient’s graduation noted David Corey the importance of math in the lives of students not only as a help in their daily lives but also as a foundation for future careers Eleanor K Dalton principal commented on the accomplishments of Daniel and Lisa as follows: “I’m sincerely proud of the accomplishments of these two students who have made accomplishments not only in math but all other academic areas I’m familiar with their backgrounds and they are truly scholars” Daniel Corey son of Mr and Mrs David Corey Delta and Lisa Nielsen and Mrs Tom of Mr daughter Nielsen Delta scored among the top Fifty students in the State of Utah on the State Mathematics Examination Ljsa and Daniel glong with seven other eighth grade algebra students from Delta Middle School took the math exam in Cedar City March 23 The exam was comprehensive and difficult according to Beverly DeWyze math teacher Students competed with 7th 8th and 9th grade students from various Utah schools In congratulating Rachel Henke age 13 daughter of Mr and Mrs Norman Henke Deseret Mrs Dalton said “This contest will be a new opportunity for students at middle school level to Moyes been a fine example of manhood for them to look up to and it was a ones who pleasure for his “boys”--thknew him best-- to give thanks to him for his friendship and support The two guest speakers Kevin Cummings representing the Millard Eagle State Officers and Dr Paul Peterson State FFA Director each gave informative and interesting tributes concerhis excepning his accomplishments tional teacherstudent relationships and their high regard for him personally A special highlight was another surprise for Mr Nielson when Mrs Thelma Probert announced that he had been chosen as “Utah Father of the Year for 1987” He will be presented with this award June 13 1987 and featured on Prime Time Access The officers presented him with a gold watch and declared that although he leaves the Millard Eagle Chapter list of acwith an unprecendented honors and awards complishments they will 1987 the Cub Scouts of Hinckley held their monthly pack meeting We were really excited to anounce that our pack had won First place in the goes to the leaders and also to all the boys who helped out During the meeting many awards were handed out Darin Smith earned his Bobcat Brent Smith moved on to his Bear In the Webelos Den Courtney Cropper has worked hard and earned his Athlete Activity Badge Cody Gardner has been working realAthlete ly hard and earned his Artist and his Sportsmen Badge In fact he’s worked so hard he’s also earned his Webelos Badge Steven Howes has been extra busy his this past month and earned Showman Badge Once again we in Hinckley want to take a second and let these boys know that we understand the time and effort that goes into earning these awards Keep up the good work k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k k 4 Hansen teaches young astronauts Dr Kimball Hansen BYU professor of astronomy visited Delta May 22 and taught the young astronauts at Delta Middle School In teaching them how to identify stars and constellations Dr Hansen gave a slide presentation This was follwed by a visit outside where students located the constellations in the starry night sky Several of the young astronauts bridged into Scouting Two members of Pack 3148 also were awarded their Arrow of Light Bob and Nan Pendray’s son Jon and son Wayne and Sharon Farmer's Adam have also received this special award All of these boys have put in the extra effort to achieve this recognition Keep up the good work!
