19th completed 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) SF Utah National Guard Upon his departing day with this unit Captain Wasden was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service Exceptional During the period of March 13 1964 to March 13 1985 Captain Wasden served in the 19th Special Forces (ABN) both as an enlisted man and as an officer As quoted G by Col James Martin Officer birthday on Sunday March 24 because 6 years ago on that date the pool opened its doors for the first time A celebration is going to be held on Saturday March 23 at the pool for everyone From 12 noon to 5:00 pm there will be free swimming and free refreshments will be served Come out to the pool on the 23rd and have a good time and join in on the birthday celebration Monday March 25 will be heavyweight will be competing for 1st 2nd and 3rd places in each class with the three top winners of each age and weight division qualifying for the state freestyle wrestling tournament which will be held at Clearfield High School the following Saturday March 23 Freestyle wrestling is very similar to high school wrestling except more emphasis is put on takedowns and the It is a scoring is somewhat after showing some spunky play against teams ranked consistently higher than the Rabbit battalion A Delta team hadn’t been to state in the last seven years or brought home a trophy in the last ten key shot tied the game at 57 A Greg Topham foul shot gave Delta its first lead which lasted for a Rabbit victory Brent Johnson led Delta’s scoring with 16 Greg Topham had 13 Russell Stevens 11 and Layne Finlinson 10 rashing the boards Brent Johnson had seven rebounds followed by Layne Tinlinson with six Jared Smith once again led in assists with six while Layne Finlinson had four Smith and also laed in steals with five and four respectively In Delta’s final game of the year the Rabbits met the Spartans from Emery for the consolation game Paced by Terry Thomas the tournament’s top scorer Emery got off to a first quarter lead as the Rabbits hit only one for 16 of their field shots Delta’s deficit continued through the second quarter but the team came out m the third quarter ready to play and took the lead late in that period I mery’s Thomas got hot again in the caily fourth quarter pulling his team to the lead With Delta down by two with eight seconds remaining two Delta starters
