Hwy 506 (W of overpass) W Main St Delta Utah 864-383- Dutson When a person has endured more than he can stand the time comes when disgust must be vented If he wants to motivate or cause action to be taken the press is the place to sound off When was elected to the office of the Justice of the Peace six years ago immediately became aware that was not supposed to make waves or cause any disturbances at all It seemed that almost as soon as had taken office was called on the carpet to be given a dressing down by the law enforcement officers Not one on one mind you but was told that my eager collectively beaver attitude would not be tolerated They wanted and expected a rubber stamp for their activities Guilty until proven innocent if you please It may be all well and good for the law enforcement officers to endorse this position but as you should well know it can be no part of the department of Justice have been dragged before the Judicial Qualifications Committee by our attorney and one of the enforcement officers who doesn’t know would prothe meaning of the truth bably have been impeached had it not been for the intervention of the District Court Judge Because this effort failed every effort has been made to circumvent my court for one that is more favorable to their views The bottom line is that today consider to be a witnessed what a attended travesty of Justice preliminary hearing of a case involving a man who had been accused of of evidence shred The only burglary that was presented was so circumstantial that the deputy county attorney should have been ashamed to have ed charges in the first place Yet because the Judge was so compatable with the prosecution he bound the defendant to the District Court for trial and continued the bail at $30000 This defendant may not be considered a (lily white) citizen as would some of you But what would one of if do home and possessions you your were searched you were arrested and dragged from your home booked ami jailed all on a search warrant based on one thumb print on a pane of glass that has been so many public places that it almost needs an itinerary to keep track of it A hardware store An old electronics store A bedroom 4 A storage room 5 A new electronics store 6 Another storage room 7 Kept in a paper sack yet dusty 8 Handled by who knows how many people yet only one thumb print 9 Stepped on while on a carpeted floor and didn’t break 10 Kept for more than a year yet the only print was no more than 12 hours old The age and identity of the print determined by an officer with all of 80 hours of expertise 12 All this results in a man spending 2 weeks in jail before preliminary hearing and probably 2 more weeks before trial It appeared to me that the Judge was more concerned about repercussions from the officers than he was about justice He repeatedly apologized for any inuendos that were being made about the officers reliability Just remember this: The only thing that separates you from the defendant 2 3 is (lily white) am getting tired of the effort to cirwish people would cumvent my court quit skulking around and get the guts to tell me face to face one on one that am doing (If that like what don’t they is the case) am doing and If they like what wish they would get what stand for the guts to get in and help me set things right We have enforcement officers that need policing We have judges that need to know that the prosecution needs to be left to the execution departAnd police ofment of government ficers that need to know that Judges shouldn’t be expected to do their work for them Remember the City of Delta has some hefty law suits pending and it is just this kind of police work that got them there If we the people do not stay on top of things we can lose control Remember we the people are the government Not some bearded goat called Uncle Sam S L Young Delta Justice of the Peace Respect your newspaper read with dismay where Sharon Western
