Is he really a Jew because he is a Gentile or really a Gentile because he is a Jew ? Nationality of- Feeling — We rejoice to see men suppress their antagonism to other nations We know some men that have so far overcome this feeling that they can stand still and see men of any other nation do their share of work without grumbling or feeling badly’ W e kuow others that ‘have so effectually put down this Jeeling that they are willing on alboccasions to “boss” anybody no’ matter where ho may come from who is willing to let them thia shows how rapidly the true principle is gaining ground Such persons will even let others labor for half the money they would want themselves under similar circumstances and never feel angry at them for consenting to take' so little What can we attribute this to but to what the Methodists call “ a triumph of grace ?” “ He won’t iiurt yer” — We did not think so once but we have lately come to the conclusion that there is not a man in all Salt Lake City that has a dog that will hurt anybody Some snarling fellows may deny this but we know it to be true Fifteen yelping wretches may snarl their deep anxiety of epifit to snap their teeth through your unmentionables and fifteen - ! ffmiuis mu e xt Reasons for Keeping the Teeth Clean — At a meeting ‘ of the American Academy a paBow-ditc- h per was read by Dr IL on the animal and vegetable J parasites infesting the teeth with the effects of different agents in causing their removal and elestrue- observations tion Microscopical had been made of the matter deposited on the teeth and gums of more than forty individuals selected from all classes of society in every variety of bodily condition and in nearly every case animal and vegetable parasites in great numbers had been discovered Of the animal parasites there were two or three or four species and of the vegetable one or twro In fact the only persons whose mouths were found to be completely free from them cleansed their teeth four times daily using soap once One or two of tliesc ' individuals also passed a thread between the teeth to cleanse them more effecIn all cases the number tually n of the parasites was greater in to the neglect of cleanliness The effect of the application of various agents was also noticed Tobacco-juic- e and smoke did not impair tlieir vitality in the least The same was also true of the of pulverized chlorine 'tooth-was- h hark of soda ammonia and vaThe aprious other detergents plication of soap however appearWe ed to destroy them instantlymaydience infer that this is the best and most proper specific for the teeth In all cases where it lias been tried it receives uufjual-ifie- d commendation It may also bo proper to add that none hut the purest white soap free from all discolourations should be used Making Sheet Glass— Sheet glass is manufactured by blowing the glass first into the form of a spherical bulb which is afterward elongated by alternate heating blowing and swinging into a cylinder about three feet long snd eight inches diameter with rounded ends which as the last process of blowing are open- - ’ best purposes these irregularities are removed' by grinding and polishing A New Painting Brush— Messrs Crowden and Garrod havo recently patented a painting-brus- h the advantage of which in comparison with the usual kind is that it is made of first class bris ties selected for the purpose Its shape is nearly flat and set in thin copper binding and firmly cemented it uses evenly and in one way and is made to deliver the color with regularity on the work The most remarkable feature of the invention is tliat the centre of the brush forms a small chamber for the paint which is worked up to the flag or top of the brush by the arrangement of the bristles which are so placed to effect this purpose that while the brush is in use it ia working the color to' the surface In and never becoming clogged flatting and stippling so great an advantage of laying the color with smoothness will and must be appreciated by every decorator The workmen using one of these brushes will be enabled to cover one half more space use less color and produce a better result on the work in the ' same amount of time The leaves of geraniums are an excellent application for cuts where the skin is rubbed off and other wounds of the kind One or two leaves must be bruised and applied on linen to the parts and the wound wall becoino cicatrised in & very short time |
