Wards gathered in the Stake The bishoprics of the 6th Center to learn the new ward and 11th wards were not Ferguson of boundaries. Stake President, J. Gordon Vaughn, presented the changes to the ward members. He explained the LDS Church keeps the ward memberships small in order for each member to have an opportunity for service and to insure the needs of each individual are met. He explained the careful planning and preparation required before the creation of a new ward. He stated each ward must be left with a balance of priesthood leadership, children and families. He said although he knew adjustments would be necessary, many blessings would come from these changes, especially the developing and strengthening of friendships. Many people separated by previous ward divisions were reunited by the new boundaries. President Vaughn explained construction would soon begin on additions to the 8th, 10th and 11th Ward building and the 5th and 6th Ward building where the 13th Ward will also meet. Bishp Leland Erickson and his counselors, J. Wright Shupe and Richard D. Long were released, as they no longer lived within the boundaries of the 5th Ward. President Vaughn explained this action brought an automatic release to all ward officers and teachers in the 5th Ward. Those affected by the boundary changes were also automatically released from any ward, but not stake position, they held. Darrell Garfield of the 6th Ward was released as Executive Secretary of that ward and then sustained as Ward Clerk in the same ward.
