Fish transported from hatcheries to reservoirs Transporting fish from one of the States hatcheries to a distant reservoir or stream used to be a very requirement of fisheries management personnel. It was potentially hazardous to many of the fish. Todays modern fish transportation trucks are making the job easier and more efficient for personnel and safer for the fish. The Division of Wildlife Resources utilizes three different sizes of the same type of tanker for transporting fish from hatcheries to stocking areas. Essentially, all three are flatbed trucks fitted with one to three tanks, a pump, and compressed oxygen cylinders which help control water temperature, oxygen content and ph levels. The newer trucks are also less susceptible to mechanical breakdown. The new tanks, made of insulated, space-ag- e plastics, have a large capacity and allow many more fish to be moved in a single trip than did the previous tanks made of steel. They are used primarily to stock large numbers of fish in reservoirs. In the past, an entire week was needed to move 100,000 catchable sized fish from the hatchery. The new equipment enables fisheries time-consumi- . managers to accomplish the same project in one or two days. Older trucks are still used to plant most streams, where the fish are widely distributed throughout the stream. The efficiency of the new equipment also pays off for the hatchery. By reducing the amount of time it takes to transport the catchables the new tankers make room for more rapid development of younger fish, reduce the amount of food needed to maintain them and give hatchery superintendents much needed room and time for other ongoing programs. The more rapid delivery time also allows fisheries prograpis to utilize favorable biological conditions of the reservoirs.- All benefits add up to a big of the Ben Lomond Varsity Wrestling squad are: (front, from left) Ken Robins, Pete Srisaad Kevin Dalpais, Gary Hart, Mike Call, Ray Wise; (center row) Hugh Shaum, Bart Hubbard, Scott Eisenhower Kent Boyington, Brian Gordon, Anthony Medina and (top) Coach Randall Christensen. Ben Lomond won every match over the 140 weight, except the unlimited class which Clearfield won on a close score. One of the big matches of the night featured former teammates Tracy Arave and Pete Srisaad. Pete wrestled at Clearfield at the season, but beginning of the 1976-7transferred to Ben Lomond when his parents moved to Ogden. Pete had 500-gall- which are apcatchables, inch proximately nine and fish. That, obviously, means the triple tanker can transport some 9,000 catchables in a single trip. The same truck can carry 45,000 fingerlings or 135,000 to 150,000 three-incfingerlings at a time. The single and double tankers are capable of similar capacities for their tanks. lf h meets Clearfield top-rate- d Viewmont at Bountiful tonight for their second league match.
