Our main goal is to continue this trend, although it most likely wont grow at the same rate moving forward, Sharp said. DSUSA added a position this year that works solely to help students get involved. Devore said this position is called the involvement coordinator, and that person will give students information on how student government works and how to get involved. The position will give trainings about student government and hopefully over tune get them into a committee that is their best fit, Devore said. Devore's motivation to get these goals done is solely for the students. I was elected here for the students and by the students, so I want to do anything I can to make this place better and do what I said I was going to do, Devore said. Jordon Sharp, director of student involvement and leadership; said the overarching goal for DSUSA is to get students involved. Along with Devores goals for this year, Sharp said DSUSA student leaders aim to create a mental health campaign for students, expand the student center, and to improve the activities, service projects, events and initiatives the DSUSA oversees annually. Involvement has been proven to increase students' grades, college satisfaction, retention rates and hiring marketability, Sharp said. The Human Performance Building will be key in helping recruit and retain students, said Paul Morris, vice president of administrative services. We dont have a lot of the nice health and recreation facilities a lot of people expect when coming to college, Morris said. This building will provide for that need. DSU officials have requested $39.5 million from the state to help with the project. An additional $10 million will come from existing student fees. Additional phases to increase student housing will eventually replace the Nisson Towers and Shiloh Dorms with three more housing complexes and additional parking. Human Performance Building A health and recreation building will one day replace the tennis courts on campus. Once completed, the 150,000 square foot Human Performance Building will feature an Olympic-size- d pool, three basketball gyms, an indoor soccer field, fitness center, indoor running track, locker rooms and a climbing wall. The build north end of the Bums Arena is set to be completed in December. The expansion will provide room for DSU human resources, campus security, advancement offices, athletic and other faculty offices. Administration plans to expand Hansen Stadium with improved grandstands and locker rooms, 5,000 additional seats on the east side of the stadium, and an improved running track. These expansions are not yet funded. An expanded Gardner Student Center and parking garage are also being planned and will be constructed when funding becomes available. Ruesch said its a formal process asking alumni and civil leaders in the community for funds to help with construction projects. The hope with all of these projects is to meet the steady growth were expecting here at Dixie, Ruesch said.
