Show 0 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2001 Shed off freshmens unwanted 15 pounds of load Alissa Bennion Feature Editor By 0! d M, It happens every fall. Millions of teens leave home for the first time and head off to the unknown world of college. These students will gain knowledge and freedom, but many will also gain weight! Ever heard of the freshman 15? So . it true? Dont worry, it doesnt happen to everyone. The bad news though is that 48 percent of all freshman gain 10 to 20 pounds their first year of college? That is an average of 15 pounds! I dont know about you, but I have enough books to carry, I dont need an additional 15 pounds to load around. These freshman pounds are added on from increased snacking, decreased physical activity, and poor health habits. The students quickly find that the oven doesnt pop out casseroles and homemade rolls. Suddenly you even begin to miss your moms dreaded meatloaf, which you would try to feed to your dog under the table. Most students dont have the time or the desire to cook nutritious meals. Heck most of them cant figure out how to open the macaroni and cheese box! So what do they do? They turn to their own tasty four food groups. Candy, which includes many servings of milk chocolate, Pop, heavy on the caffeine, Pizza and my personal favorite the chips and french fry group. I like to call it the grab and go diet. Not only are the students eating poorly but they are staying up late and waking up early. Many students go to school full time and in addition work fulltime jobs. Students schedules rarely include time for physical activity. Just because you are sweating . )r i, - e t1 f i . THE Feature is while you are lying out by the pool, it isnt considered much of a workout. Sooner or later the body is going to breakdown. It is very important to gain healthy habits. So here are a few helpful tips to avoid the freshman 15: Start the morning off with a breakfast. Eating breakfast will help you not snack throughout the day. Grab a piece of fruit or carrot sticks for your in between class cravings. Stay away from fast food. Make sure to get all the vitamins and minerals you need daily. It may be helpful to buy those cool little flintstone kid chewable vitamins! Stay away from pop and caffeine. Instead reach for an ice cold water. Water is especially important in the dixie heat and it is good for cleansing your body. So drink it up! Avoid the All You Can Eat meal plan. STOP when you are full. Dont go grocery shopping when you are hungry, you tend to buy more junk when your stomach is growing. Exercise regularly. Try to work out three to four times a week. Consider walking or riding your bike to class and save a little extra git, money. The Eccles Fitness Center is conveniently located on campus and is a grear way to find a hot date for Friday night. Make sure to catch enough beauty sleep, but dont sleep all day long. Using these helpful hints will help you to not get weighed down this upcoming year! Not only will good eating and exercise habits help you look better but it will make you feel better. The healthy physical condition is a guarentee for a successful students life. d Cute Airheads with Chests. ..Its Good to be a Girl Well-Endow- ed By Charisse Sagers Editor-In-Chi- new things? Girls, step out of your cloud of perfume, and enjoy the view from another angel. After all, it is more impor- ef tant than shaved legs. Ah...What a relief it is that girls are still using their looks and chests to get to the top in life. As I journied forth into the vast unknown world of college I couldnt help but sigh relief. was getting out of my shamelessly redundant way of life in high school, and an added bonus was the fact that people in college were more mature. That meant no more girls hiding behind their giggles and flawless skin. ..or so thought. When my excursion to Dixie was very apprehensive as of began, what to expect. knew only that it would be an environment of intellectual caliber. For this could hardly wait. My first day in St. George was met with scantily clad girls prancing around as if they were performing some sort of ritual. initially dismissed the notion of this being routine, perhaps for more of my own bennefit than that of the other girls. Now, Im not saying that this atrocity applies to all girls, but many have started down paths of degrading manner and Im sure others will follow. College is supposed to be a time of growth, maturity, and finding oneself. How can we do that if we would rather fit into any mold than become unique or (I hate to say it) an individual. Why dont we all stop focusing on cleavage, long legs, and make-u- p to take a look at the big picture of coming into a new world full of surprising and Need somewhere to wail and gnash your teeth? If you have ever watched animation and wondered, "How did they do that?", then this is your chance to find out. As a father of seven children, with three little princesses of his own, Executive Producer, Forrest S. Baker, is anticipating this and parents alike: True nobility is something we find inside ourselves and inside others. An adaptation of the original Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, "The Princess and the Pea" is a movie with a valuable, timeless message: "learn to look beyond appearances and become a person whose beauty is more than skin deep," Baker says. From the drawing board to the theatre screen, "The Princess and the Pea" comes as a worldwide animation effort, including some of Europe's finest animators and a voice cast from London. Add an American director who knows Hollywood's inside animation secrets, and a production company that belives in strengthening traditional family values through entertainment and, together, they've created a family classic that artistically explores the challenges and adventures of finding a real princess. The message of the movie is conveyed through a heartwarming musical tale of misplaced fortunes and swithced ideni- - SUN tites. When Princess Daria loses her kingdom and grows up as a peasant, her optimism amid her struggles to rediscover her true identity shows the audience that the value or beauty of a person is in the quality of her real character. Much of the animation work was completed at Feature Films For Families' animation studio, based in Budapest Hungary. Nearly 150 artists and animators from Hungary, Romania, The Czech Republic, Bosnia, France, Germany and Spain, as well as several other international studios collaborated on the film. of which was The music-mucorchestra in the recorded with a Bing Crosby Room at Paramount Pictures the central message of s "Princess."
