To be held at Cedar High School June the event will combine for the first time competitions in various martial arts disciplines that were previously held 21-2- 2, separately at the Games. The event will be under the direction of sports Sean coordinators Robert Watson, Waugh. and Aaron Lankford. Making a return to the finals lineup following a hiatus in 1995 will be the Diving event. Sport coordinator Kurt Warnecke of the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center will direct this popular pool-sid- e sport. And finally, the Cedar City Track club on Kitty Hawk Road will welcome firearms enthusiasts from throughout the state June 22 as finals competitions are held in Trap Shooting. Sport Jack coordinators and Brent Matheson Whitaker will direct the action as sharp shooters compete in singles, dou bles and handicap events. , According to Dave-Slack- executive director of the Utah Summer Games, registration for the 11th annual Games has been brisk, and particularly so in this quartet of new and returning sports. "There is a great sense of excitement surrounding the Games this year," Slack said. "With the return of the regional format after last year's finals-onlcelebration of our diamond anniversary, with five regions holding competitions throughout the state in May and June, and with new sports on the finals y schedule, we're ex pec ting one of the most successful seasons we've ever had at the Summer Games," he said. Athletes competing in regional sports (basketball, swimming, trac k and field and volleyball) may register through May 18, while the deadline for Pipe bomber Accent Pg. 5: The Cure finals-onl- y participants in sports is June 1.
