Alder distributed data which showed that staff employees at Dixie are paid 12 percent lower thap at community comparable colleges and that the total compensation package for faculty is 26 percent lower at comparable than institutions. Alder illustrated the salary situation at Dixie by distributing a job opening ad from the Daily Spectrum. The job opportunity was for a garbage truck driver. The qualifications were that the applicant must have a valid driver's license. The salary range was 517,500 to $21,900. He then explained the salaries of Dixie College faculty members. A beginning mathematics instructor earns $16,100. An experienced mathematics professor with fourteen years of teaching in the public schools and at Dixie is earning $22,500. He also said that seasoned staff members with nearly twenty years of service earn in the range of $18,000. Gunnison citizens can earn Bachelor s degrees there.
