(I to r)Addison Everett, Dr. Timothy Montrue Larkin, mother, grandmother and sometime teacher herself was recently honored by the faculty of the Humanities and Social Sciences at Dixie College, with a citashe tion and placque because, a ideal our of person in represents pursuit of education. In a statement written the week of the honor to Montrue, Joe Green, assistant professor of history and economics at Dixie, said Montrue hasnt attended college because she needs a job, nor does she expect material return for her efforts. Yet she has worked to receive an associate degree from Dixie and a bachelors degree from SUSC during the past several years. Her motivation then can only be the intrinsic worth and satisfaction of gaining knowledge and learning to approach the world in a critical way. Since many of our students have lost sight of these intrinsic values, it has been refreshing for members of our division to have 7 jf Vr h Bywater, Ace Pilkington, Ed Reber, Ruth Hafen, Dr. Allan Payne, Montrue Larkin, Phillip Williams, and Joe Green, been insightful, has contributed to discussions from her wide experience and from wide outside reading interests. We believe that if all students were as dedicated and interested in education as Montrue, the world would be much better. The citation, written by division dean, Allan B. Laidlaw said, in part, Through your years of interest in and support of the humanities at Dixie College, we in the Humanities and Social Sciences Division have come to know, respect and love you. You clearly embody the humanities qualities we value most. You are one of those rare individuals who pursue knowledge for the sheer joy of knowing about your own and other peoples feelings, ideas, and behavior. You have nobly confronted what is means to be humanto live richly and deeply in the moment, to explore the life of the mind, to visit other lands and cultures, and to comfort those who suffer. eluded by saying Your interest in people particularly students, your commitment to learning, and your support of Dixie College are exemplary. We salute you. The citation and placque were presented as part of a dinner honoring Montrue, in the Sun Room of the Union Building on the Dixie College campus.
