Show Page 6, DIXIE SUN Februar, Comedy to be Presented Musical Southwest Series and Dixie Col- lege are presenting a musical comedy act, THE BRASS BAND, Tuesday, March 1, 8:00 p.m., Dixie High School Auditorium, an excellent family show. But this evenings performance may not be the usual musical comedy for you. No, its not A Chorus Line or Annie. Instead, the concert is a Marx Bros. style amusement, put on by a quintet -- playing trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba and other instruments - a brass ensemble. They will interpret in their unmatched way such favorites as the William Tell Overture; theme from 2001, Space Odyssey; Blue St. Danube; Muscat Ramble; Go Louis Blues; When the Saints In; etc.Katchaturians Marching Sabre Dance, The Brass Band is a high energy, first-clazany show group of five brass instrumentalists, who formed up in 1971 for Charles Dickens Christmas Faire, San Francisco, where in performance they improvised comedy in the guise of an old ss English street band. Refining their act for the stage, the group has developed a unique style of entertainment blending highly polished brass music with a brand of viusal comedy utilizing both improvised and choreographed settings. One cant make fun of various instrumental styles and classical compositioins until unquestioned ability to perform on that instrument has been proven. Southwest Series members and Dixie College students will be admitted free. The charge for others is $5.00, adults and $3.00 for all others. There will be an advance sale with $1.00 off at R & K Bookstore and please note that Southwest Series 4 seasons subscriptioins for will also go on sale at this concert. Our sale period will extend from March - July and prices will be $22 for adults; $6.00, students; $55 per family. These prices will rise con- siderably after July 1 to $28, adults; $8.00, students; and $65 a family. This year the Series presented the Jay Welch Chorale and the BYU Ballroom Dance Company. Arts Council Plans Activities The Southwestern Utah Arts Council is making plans for a number of activities that will involve council members and interested persons from within the St. George area. A weekly workshop is presently being held in the council room at the St George Arts Center, 86 South Main. Council members attend free of charge, while other interested persons may come for $ .00 per session. session will Each weekly feature live models, arranged for by board member Jer Tolman. Monthly exhibits will be on display at the arts center, featuring SUAC members. For the month of March , Roland Lee will present his water colors, while Jer Tolman will have oils, water colors, pastels, and pencil drawings and Melanie Scott, current SUAC president, will exhibit charcoal, pencil, pastel and water colors. The March exhibit will 1 ur begin on the 11th at 7:00 p.m. and will be open through the 25th for all interested persons to view. Except for the opening evening, which will feature an artists reception beginning at 7:00 p.m., the exhibit will be open daily, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The council, during the current year, is holding monthly board meetings on the First Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Art Council room of the arts center. If council members have business to be presented, they should contact Melanie Scott, president, or Roland Lee, vice president, the week prior to each months meeting.
