AN EVENING WITH GERSHWIN is a musical one-man show j featuring THOMAS WRIGHT, American pianist and television personality. In the role of Gershwin, he recreates the music and mood of the 1920s and 1930s and describes in Gershwins how the music was composed. Mr. Wright brings to life the magic of a Gershwin evening, as he plays such favorites as Rhapsody in Blue, An in American music from Paris, own words Porgy show and Broadway A Bess, music and and from Holly-woo- concert pianist, has jappeared as soloist with pleading symphony (orchestras and in con- certs throughout the --G United States. A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas Wright graduated from Butler Uni- versity with a Bachelor of Music degree, Magna cum laude, and two years later received his Master of Music degree from Indiana University. He studied with such eminent as Bomar pianists Harold Cramer, Triggs, Ernest and Guy Maier. Three years of service with the U.S. Air Force found him not only flying but also playing concerts on tours of service bases and writing a musical which was produced both here and overseas. several Spending years in New York City he pursued graduate studies equal to the doctorate at Columbia University. At the same time he held the position of staff pianist for the NBC Television Network. He was the featured ardst on several weekly network shows including Musical Miniatures and on Hall Concert NBC Television. On Mutual Network he was the musical director for "Song of the Stranger daily radio series. He also spent Hoff-zimme- r, several months in Hollywood working for the modon picture industry as a musical consultant. Deciding to combine his professional life with academia, he joined the faculty of Florida State Univerin Tallahassee, sity Florida, where he is currendy Professor of Music. He has hosted two long running weekly series for educational television: Music Hall and Sounds Interesting. He continues an extensive concert career and engagements with symphony orchestras. Recent honors that have come to him include the Gold Key Faculty of the Year and Award, being selected to Outstanding Educators of America: and International Whos Who in Music. He was also honored by the Florida House of Representatives in a special resolution citing An with Evening Gershwin" as a benefit concert success for the American Cancer Society. He is listed on the national Artist List of the Baldwin Piano Company. Although noted as a specialist in the music of Gershwin, he also has a varied repertoire of the standard piano literature. He will be here from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and will meet with students in the council room of the student center. Questions concerning admission, transfer of credit, scholarships, financial aid etc. will be Cast For Play Guys and Dolls Selected the show. for the musical Guys and Dolls were held at Dixie College on January 4 to 6 under the direction of Dr. C. Paul Andersen, Mrs. Roene B. DiFiore, and Mrs. Cynthia Metcalf. The large group of talented students and community performers who participated in auditions totaled sixty-fivand more than fifty people were cast in Auditions Broadway and Dolls includes two love stories which involve Sky Guys Masterson, to be played by Ron Kahle, and Sarah Brown, to be performed by Jaylynn Daley, and in a subordinate plot, Nathan DeTroit, played by Matt Potter, and Miss Adelaide, played by Graff. Gretchen Nicely-NicelJohnson, Benny Southlstreet, and Rusty Charlie, all gamof buddies bling Nathan Detroit, will be y Duane by played Steve Stephens, Wright, and Brooks Washburn, respectively. The personnel of the Salvation Army will include Mission Bill Lunt, as Arvide Abernathy, Jana Jack-maas Agatha, Teresa Springer, as Martha, and Shaun Murphy as Calvin. Macejacobson, a graduate of Dixie College Theatre, will play General Matilda Cartwright of the Salvation Army Mission. Other major characters n include Hal Chesler as Harry the Horse, Jim Hulihan as Lt. Branni-gan- , Marty Abbinanti as Joey Biltmore, and David Leavitt as Big Jule. A large group of talented will play varied roles throughout the play: Paul Jones, Scott Goold, Lisa Newby, Chris Beyer, Richelle Holt, Allison Adams, Mary Lou Mangan, Joni Barnard, Cara Clawson, Sheri Blake, Sarah Morris, Mike Gina Jessen, Perry, Debbie Fowler, Becky Memmott, Garry Gentry, Kristin Catherall, Janice Sigler, Laura Deem, Margaret Gatehouse, Wendy Davis and Becky Cooper. singers-actors-dance- Guys and Dolls will rehearse for performances beginning February 16 and continuing through February 20 in the Dixie College Fine Arts Theatre.
