Show THE DIXIE SUN PAGE FOUR THE CALL 'EM Please register any and all complaints with a kind tactful letter to the Sun staff. Now Were trying something a mite new just for laughs (we hope) in the son this year. (We hope) We hope you have as much fun reading this as we did talking about you. (We hope) Throughout the year, we will pour forth with unnumerable golden nuggets of thought. (We hope) (This is getting rather corny, we think). Have you noticed Violet? Just for another try at laughs did you know that you cant choose your face but vou can always pick your nose? (We hope not in the lunch room). Speaking of the lunch room, have you observed the shortage of utinsels? Several students have been seen eating with their pocket combs, flip knives, and the day we had rice pencils. This is a most unsanitary practice, and we feel that we could at least either bring a spoon or wash our claws and try them. Actually, though, the lunch room is quite a drawing card. For instance, students come to Dixie for various reasons football, to get married, partake of the Dixie spirit, etc., but Louis Bowers came to eat school lunch. Youll notice that Governor Clyde has had no problem with integration at Dixie the Cedar students are fitting in nicely here. Incidentally t h i s chlorination I think that when problem students are forced to drink out of the gutter on the bank corner; I mean . . . I wonder when Billyll be back ? Oh, by the way my grandmother had an operation yesterday . . . But you wouldnt 'be interested in that. And have you noticed Jeb Blakes new Jeb kit? (slide rule) Fine way to get a bruised leg . . . Incidentally, I wonder if James will be trying for a new rocket fuel this year? I was talking to the warden of n a asylum the other day he said hed decided that his inmates were having so much fun diving into their new swimming pool that hed put some water in it. Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, what did you think of the plav? Oh, before we forget Mr. Bentley wanted us to remind you that if'he doesnt get your money this week, hell get it next week. Incidentally, theres a $5 fee for late registration. The M. Bentleys must be eating a better grade of tuna this year Will the please move the stand off its sacred resting place? Several of you may have noticed its been in the restricted area for some time. Sign seen in rest room: Smile. You may be on television. Aside from that, Mr. Cameron, how did you enjoy the debate class ? Another thing lets get together on this paper towel situation. We feel that its entirely unnecessary to consume one whole towel each time a pop is sold in the lounge. Then during the next change of classes with face and hands drizzling wet, whats available for drying purposes? You guessed it. (And it aint theme paper, either). Incidentally the Gunlock bus will now get a potential track squad out of shape by hauling PE students through their usual first leg of calesthentics. I never did tell you what grandma was operated on for . . What weve been leading up tc for the past few paragraphs (we hope) is the feature of our column the sunbeams and, of course, the sunburns. Mr. Butler, your song was a jolly riot. To you goes our first sunbeam. And to the for paying off their famous scoreboard I wish Doc Reich-man- n were here to throw a party in celebration of his release from debt. And another sunbeam a collective one to all you Dixieites. Attendance at assemblies has been amazing. Keep it up. Youll save the buildings and grounds staff from a great deal of dusting. And now the sunburn To whoever is responsible for washing all the cars within spitting distance of the lawn be tween the library and the Tabernacle parking lot each time it becomes necessary to shower the lawn each day. I mean, its not that I mind waxing my car every day, but . . . (End of column). P.S. Grandma is feeling much better. 4 book. X-Cl- Dixie High Flyers-Basi- c Fight Hard Battle to Tie The Dixie Flyers opened the football season by battling Basic high school to a hard fought tie under the lights of Ben Church Memorial field in Henderson. The game was well played from to the final the opening kick-of- f gun. The first time Basic got their hands on the ball they began marching toward the goal only to be halted by an intercepted pass. This was the pattern of the whole game as each team gained lots of yardage but had trouble scoring. Midway in the second period Arlyn Hafen broke loose for 65 vards to carry the ball to Basics 25 vard marker. On the next play Dixie received one of its many penalties, a 15 yarder. The Flyers were down but not out; on the following play Jackrabbit JackTo-ble- r scampered to the 10 yard line for a first and ten. Two plavs later Rich Hafen plowed into the end zone. The point after was no good. Exciting as this next bit might sound, its the truth: With a pip, pip and a cheerio (with apologies to Mr. Butler), Miss D. first saw the foggy light of day in London, England, some 17 years ago. From there it was America, then Las Vegas (also in America, they tell me), Los Angeles, and in the meanwhile, Pine Valley, which Carol now proudly calls home. Pine Valley was the scene of Carols most exciting episode (and no doubt her parents) as she spent two lonely days and nights, lost amid the jungle of Pine Valley mountain. Sorry we dont have time to give you the details its a thriller! Horses have always been our queens prime interest. She won her first horse show while in the third grade!
