Show THE DIXIE OWL SCHUYLER HAS GONE Schuyler has gone His classmates and friends who have kept waiting on For his joyous returning To school, when the days of his illness were past In bowed silence stand, As the messenger carries the word here and there, And leaves each one breathing a prayer, For courage ,the weight of this tear-mingl- ed sorrow to bear. Schuyler has gone Through the length of the halls s anon and the Come the echoes, repeating class-room- The message of sorrow to teacher and friend. All the welcome words planned Lie in coldness unspoken in each aching heart ; tears And the brine-bittwith their smart, Can but faintly the depth of our down-streami- ng er anguish impart. Schuyler has gone Even the robin that chants on the lawn, And the breezes at evening, Seem burdened with sadness, so great is our loss, But not all of our grief Can restore to our presence the light of his smile, n Nor his words, free from feigning or guile. Our privilege was just to have known him a while. Schuyler has gone But see, from the Portals he beckons us on To the heights worth attaining. And bids us his teachers, and classmates and friends Refrain from our tears. If we by the light of his faith will be led, The life of dear Schuyler, al- though he be dead, Shall still abide with us, for so Christ hath said. Ah, if we his companions are missing him so, What grief must they know. But day after day will Lifes Book unfold, And all of the gems that endeared him be told ; His virtue, faith, courage, and deeds of pure gold. not considered serious, he, however, never recovered from it. The Student Body could ill afford to lose him, he was student body Debating manager and was himself vitally interested in debating, to use his own expresHe sion he lived to debate. was a member of the Debating Team which was to meet Paro-wa- n High in March and the fact that he was forced to stay in bed when he should have been working on that debate worried him very much. Finally on Feb. 19, he seemed to give up all hope of getting better and wrote a note to his colleague telling him to get another partner for he was down and out. The following afternoon he died. The Senior Class in particular keenly senses his loss since he was their class president and most closely associated with them. When he was elected president it was by acclamation and he has certainly justified the confidence his classmates placed in him, throughout the year he has never once relaxed his diligence in trying to make the class a success. But three hours before he died he talked to some of his class mates of the plans he wished carried out in regards to the contribution his class was to leave to the school The Student Body was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Schuyler Moody which ccurred on Feb. 20, of leak? ' of the heart. Schuyler has never been very strong due to his weak heart but the last year he has been so much stronger than usual that himself included, everyone, thought he was outgrowing his weakness. Two weeks prior to his death he was attacked with a severe case of bronchitis which distressed him very much but was - Although everyone deeply regrets his going, each one wishes to thank God for the privilege of having associated with such a truly noble spirit. Come on everybody and lets play tennis. The court is just right and everybody is rarin to play. It isnt every school that can play tennis in February. bachelor is a man with enough confidence in his judgment of women to act upon it. A |
