Show The Dixie Owl. St. George, Utah 7 The Spirit of Christmas What is the Spirit of Christmas? One would sometimes think it the spirit of greed, selfishness and worry. Instead of such a spirit accompanying the Christmas preparations, how beautiful it is when we occasionally see the true goodwill spirit of Christmas manifest; when the heart-fel- t and love accompanying the simple gifts, without any wish whatever for recompense, except the happiness which goes with such giving when the heart is filled with gratitude for that great gift to all mankind which came to the world with the first Christmas. Our thoughts naturally go back to the time when the Three Wise Men, after their long journey in search of the babe who was to become the Savior of the world, at length had the blessed privilege of presenting their gifts of frankincense and myrrh. Very often though, the thoughts of what is to be given in return for our gifts, entirely spoils and lowers the true spirit of Christmas. The Christmas preparations are often left too late, necessitating hurry and worry, which spoils the spirit which should accompany the Christmas season. Our Christmas shopping should be done early to avoid hurry, and also to make the life of clerks more endurable at this time. By thinking of the comfort and pleasure of others, and forgetting ourselves, and our own wants, we shall find the best reeeipe known for truly enjoying the Spirit of Christmas. ; A. J. M. |
